Not a C230 owner but have a question.
Hey all,
I'm not a C230 owner buy my GF is. The quesion I have is about the tires. She just got her service B done and the dealership told her that she would need new rear tires, ~$350. I told her to shop around first and maybe find better tires before replacing them. Anyway, she went into Discount Tire today and got quoted ~$380 and they told her that MB and BMW only use a specific tire. Is that true? Couldn't she just buy a whole new set of, say, Falken's as long as they were the right size (225/45/17)? Also, since the dealership said that she just needed rears, couldn't she just get them rotated? TIA

MB uses different tire manufacturer's. There is a label on the car with MB recommendations. If you want to follow those its up to you. Rotating the bad ones to the front is not going to eliminate the fact that they are bad.

So what you're saying is, MB recommends certain manufacturers, but doesn't neccesarily mean she has to use them. As long as they're the right size it shouldn't matter, no?

as far as rotating the tires, if the front and rear are the same size you could put the front to the rear and run them for a little longer then change the whole set when you finally need to. The rear usually wore out faster for rwd cars. also, it is a good idea to have the better tires on the rear to prevent the tail sliding out during cornering. a car with worn out front is by far more controllable then one with the worn out rear.
also, if you can take pictures of the condition of all four of the tires, it might be better for us to make judgement on what you should do because often dealership is trying to make money.

you can use any tire you want as long as they are the same size... sometimes people would even get a lil wider tires but keep the overall circumference of the tire the same as stock which is fine.
what kind of tires are they? And how about looking online? Maybe you can get'em cheaper. I personally like to keep all 4 tires the same... And with similar amount of tread left.
and yeah, if you can post a pic and let us determine if you need new tires that'd be great. Good luck!
