make it seem like the alarm is going on and off for no apparent reason and that you are extremly annoyed and your neighbors have complained multiple times. MB will likely to replace it!

and they'll check your alarm, and possibly "fix" it by replacing it, and then they'll put the chirp on if you ask.

Can anyone confirm that the 2003 C230K has the ability to beep when setting the alarm? I took it to the dealer last week and the service personnel had the general consensus that the 2003 CANNOT be enabled to use the alarm chirp.

If it CAN be done, I'll use WaveyCat's instructions to force the dealer into doing it. Is there also a % volume adjustment ability on the 2003?

Thanks.

At the dealer, using the MB factory handheld laptop tester, go into the car's computer system.
Go into Programs
Locate the Rear SAM Program
Locate Body
Select Netherland
WaveyCat, do you know what "SAM" stands for? Have you ever seen/held this "MB Factory Handheld Laptop Tester"? How big is it? I want to go into the dealer sounding like I've done this before. I can't afford a slip-up as my dealer will see that as a sign of weakness in knowledge and capitalize on it and not do the work.

I stopped by the dealer this morning to see what he'd say and, as expected, he flat out said it couldn't be done. I told him I'd make him a deal... charge me the minimum service charge (which I think is $24.95) and if it works, good, if not, I learned an expensive lesson. He seemed okay with that, but said his techs were busy (like they couldn't pull away for 2 minutes). He said I could wait or just come back in the morning... I told him I'd see him in the morning.

I've have some news on this topic tomorrow... good or bad I'll report back.

I wish I could find someone with that program (that was willing to share it). If I could get 5 minutes alone with the interface cable, I could build one myself. I know someone (or several someones) with the cable AND the software, but it probably isn't in their best interests to share either with me. I certainly wouldn't be cutting into their business, but they don't know me well enough to trust me on that.

So according to the seller, it is a "Signal Aqcusition + Actuation Module" [sic]. So is it really a SAAM? I guess a look at the laptop screen could answer that. I'll try to peek while the tech is screwing with it tomorrow.

Tony you have a bad dealership - first they won't give you the new key, now they won't do the 'beep sound'... Wow! It seems like they don't want to make money (well at least not off accessories).

You need to find a new dealership!

I would love to have all that enabled, but a trip to NY with my car is a bit extreme. I would also like the ability to add the foglights to the "auto" position on the light switch. The foglights do a GREAT job of lighting the area immediately in front of my car as well as to the sides a great deal. They aren't just for "fog". I might have to do what I rigged up on my last Dodge vehicle. I wired a relay to power the foglights and powered the relay from the headlight feed. Headlights on, foglights on. Simple as that.

As for finding a new dealer, that's in the plan. I'm going to give my local dealer ONE more chance tomorrow morning. If they screw with me on the "alarm chirp" or "SmartKey ordering", I'll be going to Baton Rouge. I called the Baton Rouge dealer today and they seem quite happy to help me. So we'll see.

Update: The dealer ACTUALLY did what I asked (told) them. The service foreman came out and asked where the setting was, and thanks to Wavey, I was able to tell him. He had no idea that feature was in there.

So now I have alarm chirps! Happy day. I have noticed that the default volume level is pretty low (I guess I'm never happy). Is there a way to adjust the volume of the chirps on my car?

The only one in town, which might be why they are the way they are.

Crap. If I don't have an "exact" path to get them there, they won't do it. I'm certainly not going to go back to have them do JUST that... they'll probably ding me for another 1/2 hour of labor.

Thanks WK.

It'll be different at each dealer. In my case, it was a 1/2 hour job and it's $80 an hour. Normally they have a 1 hour minimum, but since it took all of 5 minutes, maybe they felt guilty. Who knows? It's about the only "break" I've gotten from them.

Well at least you got it done. Hopefully if you go back they'll just do it for you -- seem like a quick change. It must be because they are the only ones in town that they act like this. My dealership is great, because they know the next one is only 8 miles away!
