Tire Pressure Loss Mod Using STAR DAS

Any STAR DAS experts still around who know how to program the tire pressure loss function mod? I have a 2003 USA model C230 and have changed the following settings based on the information found on an old thread at
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/452383-star-das-menu-paths-mods-pre-facelift-w203-3.html
  1. EZS Control Unit > Read Coding and Change if Necessary > Tire pressure loss warner (PRESENT)
  2. ICM Control Unit > Variant Coding > Special Equipment Coding > RDK tire pressure control (ACTIVE)
  3. However, I cannot find any tire pressure loss warner option under the ESP control unit.
The "tire pressure (psi)" page is activated within the actual instrument cluster odometer menu, but the "error tire press. monitor display defective" also displays upon startup.

Thank-you!

How do you expect it to read tyre pressures? Have you installed the RDK ecu? Have you fitted the sensors inside the rims?

My car is not equipped with any TPMS sensors. This mod is supposed to enable a feature that uses the ABS sensors to measure tire diameter by proxy, and trigger an alarm if one rotates faster than the other. Not as good as a sensor based system of course but it does work. I believe it is an old Canadian market feature, but not DOT approved for the US. But your comment makes me re-think about activating the RDK tire pressure control in STAR. Probably not the right setting to change in my case.

Check out this thread: TPMS Upgrade

At about post #94 there is information on activating the system that uses the ABS sensors to measure differences in wheel rotation speeds. Jake and I were both able to turn this on in our post-facelift 2005 C230 sedans. I don't know whether this feature is available on pre-facelift vehicles.

On later cars, you can activate the system that displays the tire pressures in the center information screen, but you do need the wheel sensors and a receiver as described. This was not available for 2005 models.

Thank-you, Kevin. I did confirm the "tire loss warner" is coded as "present". I will drive the car for a few days, and then test it by under inflating one tire. Do you only get a message in the instrument cluster if the system detects a tire anomaly?

That seems to be how the system works. My wife’s 2005 Highlander has a system that seems similar. It alerted us when she had a nail in a tire and we have to reset it when she buys new tires. If I recall correctly, Jake’s car set a warning when he switched between summer and winter tires and when he had low pressure in a tire.

I don’t think the system makes fine distinctions. You probably need to let 4 or 5 psi out of a tire before it can detect a difference. It seems like it could prevent some potentially dangerous situations.

No luck with the current settings! I under inflated one tire by about 15 psi, and drove around a few minutes earlier today. Unfortunately no warning came up on the dashboard. Wondering what model year this feature was first introduced? I must either be missing another setting, or my ECU version is too old.

It has been a while since I read the entire thread I linked. You may want to check and see whether anyone with a pre-face lift car had any success.
