Question Removing Center Console Control Surrounds

The attached image shows the center console on my C320. I would like to remove the trim around the upper switch row and around the heater controls.

Does anyone know the proper way to remove this without damaging the trim? To date, I have not subscribed to the StarTekInfo web site, so I don't have their information, yet.

Are these all spring clips, or are screws hidden somewhere?

I wonder if the info posted by session would help; removal of HU. If not our resident mod guru, sunman, might know the answers.

Does anyone have an idea of the removal of the console trim around the switches and the A/C on an '05 C320 Sports Coupe?

My examination, with the ash tray door partially open, reveals two screws holding the bottom edge of the A/C trim. It looks like the ash tray door needs to be out of the way to get at those, perhaps by removing the entire front-to-rear center console.

Thanks for any information.

can you fit a screw driver in there to unscrew the screws with the door partially open. kind of like when we unclip the clips holding in the lower trim, we have to have the door to the ash tray partially open.

It doesn't look like that is the best way. It looks like the ashtray door will get scratched and that there is not a good angle on the screw head.

for 01-04 you have to take the center console off, then the ashtray and then the trim between the seats. or atleast thats the order i did it when i took everything off to run the Aux line for my COMAND.

From the pic it looks like the upper and lower trims are separate items, so I think the procedures for the one piece design on 02-04 models won't work...

Anyone have any update on this? I tried about one hour, but I still cannot take the vent off. What are the steps for removing the vent? I didn't what to use too much force before I know the correct steps because I didn't want to break them.

I need to know how deep under the upper switch panel before I can decide whether I can mod it or not.

do a search for Audio 10 Install by an retired member "session" That will help you with the upper piece. I have not removed the bottom piece before (below radio) but I can check WIS later and let you know

some slow@$$diesels
Just search for the pre model updated 203 radio removal threads...the updated 203s are almost alike except for some minor differences...

The panel that holds the climate control has 2 screws on the bottomside instead of 2 clamps (obvious to see once you have the ashtray - complete assembly, NOT just the door - out) and the top panel that holds the switches is secured with the exact same 2 screws as in the pre updated 203s. Biggest diference is to be found in the clamps that hold both panels at the radioside...seriously IT IS EASY.

greetingz,

Thx everyone!! I finally got it. The only problem was that my trox 20 screw was too short. Anyway, my hope for installing a laptop stnd vanished as the space behind the panel is too small. But I got another great idea for putting my laptop as a GPS. I will post a complete report after I finishd it.
