C Class Saloon Question - Subwoofer or not?
previously owning a E220 CDI, new shape and now moving to this car (C270 CDI), which i prefer in every way, was wondering whether or not this car has a built in subwoofer, i have not got the harmon kardon sound system package, but i was wondering if it came with a stock sub, as the E220 came with a subwoofer, and i dont think that had the Uprated sound system, is it just the E's come with subs as standards and the Cs dont or do they both come with sub?

Will, what year is your saloon ? (sedan, for non-UK/European MB speakers)

the only thing i dont like about it is the distortion i get, i think it must have been the Bose sound system in the E220, however i could have base and treble on 10 and max volume and get no distortion, however any treble and bass totally kills these speakers, however with bass and treble set to 0 i can have it on loudest volume without distortion

What model sub (if any) is in the trunk, behind the carpeted compartments ? You should have access to that, and be able to tell
whether it's a BOSE sub or a stock sub.

how do i find out if i have the bose speakers in the doors?!? will it say in my owners manual? as i have already searched through this and found nothing, in the back there are like 2 speaker grates im not sure if theres a sub under here or if its just 2 more speakers?

The speakers on my 2003 model are BOSE, and it's easy to tell, because it says "BOSE" in gold-chrome right on the speaker grate.

will go have a look and get back 2 u give me 15mins or so!, also if the speakers are just standard and not BOSE, do u reckon i should get the harmon kardon system or go for aftermarket speakers and subs?

also if this is the case, then how come it sounds distorted if it has the same sound system as my E class did? are the E class systems uprated compared to the C class ones?!? cus with the E i could play it full bass and treble with no noticeable distortion, if i try this on my new car i get so much distortion, whats an optimal base/treble setting to play it at on full volume without distortion?

I don't think any properly working sub should suffer from such distortion as you describe it. Whether it's a BOSE or not, there may be something wrong with the subwoofer.
I would take it to a radio/tech shop, and have them check it out for distortion and/or blown component(s).

Will, try what CITRON says, and put the bass control at about mid-way point and see if that helps.

yes Audio10 is so much more of an improvement over the Audio30. Sooooooooooo much! base setting of 4 or 5 on audio10 is like having base setting of 10 on audio30

I was just about to purchase an AUDIO 10 from Europe, when I decided to go for the EURO COMAND. I hear COMAND cd playback is halfway between Audio 30 and Audio 10. Although, I'll probably just keep all my music in the CD changer, or hook up the SAT function to SIRIUS or something.
Doug, how would you compare COMAND playback (bass) vs Audio 10 & Audio 30 since you've had 'em all ?

Carlos, does Euro COMAND have the SAT function? i thought it was TV. i rate them Audio10, COMAND, Audio30. COMAND is a nice mid way between the two, but Audio10 was definately strong in sound, especially base.
