how does it communicate with the car, bluetooth? Do you need a specific phone?

Woah, nice! drool, drool, drool.
I can't wait for them to have this for the '05's!
And, I was wondering where Doug went, I really haven't seen you post in a while man...
As for the linguatronic, did Steve install a stalk at the steering wheel/column, and/or how does it work?

yeah i've been super busy with work and school, but ive been around lurking. thanks for the compliments.
the phone talks to the car via the PSE, which is located in the trunk near the sub woofer. the linguatronic, is pretty much pre-wired. the stalk just plugs in, and a control unit is mounted in the trunk.
there is no blue tooth, but when the phone is in the cradle there is no need for it. you can dial from the COMAND, or by using VR (linguatronic). pull the stalk, say dial number, then say the number, all the digits. the car repeats then say dial. or if you have a name preset set, say dial name, then say the name. its way cool. you can control the radio and the cd as well. or say naviagation and the map will show. its really cool. im very pleased with it. the best was the 2004 armrest. dean said he doesnt recommend someone who doesnt know what they are doing to install it. he made it look easy but im very glad it was done. i drove home with a grin on my face, playing with VR and the phone. changing radio stations and cd with VR as well. its sweet!

i bought the UHI kit with VR from Steve. the UHI includes the cradle, the PSE (not sure what the acronym stands for, but basically is what allows the phone to talk to the car), wiring etc. i had the 6230b, but they couldnt get it to work, so i bought that phone this morning and now it works great!

Nothing MB related (sorry)
Hi Douglas - finally got it, didn't you!
I heard you couldn't part from Steve and Dean, so you came back the next day. Glad to see it worked out fine!
PSE = portable support electronics... the phone controller! (got that from Dean!).
I don't think I need to say it, but I am going to say it anyway: ENJOY your new features, Doug!
Greetingz,
BigSis

CitronC230K_03, so the Nokia 6230b won't work? I had the same problem with you, I had 6230b and it kept blowing off my fuse 13. Do you think Steve would exchange the Nokia cradle with Sony Ericsson for me? I have tried to get this UHI kit to work for almost 2 weeks now.

Mercedes will not produce a cradle for a phone that is used by a select few people compared to more popular phones like the Sony Ericsson t616 and Nokia 6230. There is no alternative that I know of for this phone. check www.mikbox.com Mik is suppose to come up with a bluetooth alternative for the mercedes but you will have to upgrade to the Treo 650 to make use of the bluetooth.

Sunman,
This is Khee, I think the 6230 does not work. I think Douglas has the same problem as I have, it will short circuit fuse 13 in the rear SAM, I am still waiting to see I can swap it to Sony T637 Cradle.

dean said he doesnt recommend anyone who doesnt know what they are doing to install the armrest. it looks easy, but there is alot of popping, and pulling, that i would be afraid i'd break something. all i know is that a retrofit of a 2004-up armrest, which said couldnt be done, can be.
the 6230b wasnt the problem. granted it didnt work, but there is a wiring issue or something with the UHI kits that blows fuse 13. we went through about 10 atleast fuses. steve did something and it works. the 6230b wouldnt recognize the cradle. event though they both had the same software version. dean bought the 6230b from me and he is going to continue to do testing on the phone. he opted for me to buy it back from him for what i sold it for, once he figures out why it doesnt work. before the fuse issue came up, dean's T637 worked in my car. the nokia didnt. dean isnt sure why, even though the cradle and phone have the same software version. that's why he wants to continue testing on it.
dont quote me, but i think the UHI PSE's blow fuse 13 because of different wiring. i think they said its because the wiring was different, but also i remember dean saying something about the cradle drawing power as well. i dont know what the exact fix was. they worked on my car from 5pm-11pm Sat night. dean continued to study wiring diagrams and whatnot to troubleshoot the problem even after i left. they couldnt get it to work, so i brought it back on sunday and they worked on it from 2pm - 7:30pm. they swapped out VR control units, UHI PSE's, cradles, unplugged my PTS, they thought maybe that was causing it. they finally had mark put out his nokia 6010 PSE from his W210 wagon. an old style PSE, i guess. steve plugged that PSE in my car, hooked PTS up, VR, etc, and fuse 13 did not blow. so that's when he said the problem was the UHI PSE. like i said i dont know what the exact fix was. i just wanted UHI, VR and PTS to work. i have had my UHI pre-paid since August, so i have been waiting quite some time as well. steve finished it about 5:30 or so on sunday, i was just playing with the VR and phone. plus Steve trouble shot my PTS. i had a bad control unit, which he swapped out for me. the control unit i had was for a W210 he said. his DAS wouldnt recognise the control until and he was unable to access it. after we swapped it out, now it worked great. shuts off after 9mph, dims at night, turns on rear only in reverse, can turn off with switch row, etc. thats another thread i guess.
steve said they are going to do some research and figure out why this problem is occuring in coupes. atleast for right now they have a solution.

honestly though, to watch dean and steve work, and the speed and accuracy, it's really awesome. i felt kinda bad, beause my 5pm appt. on saturday, kinda backed up other appt's, but they worked around that, and it was like they wouldnt stop until they figured it out. i honestly thought i was going to be leaving on sunday with no UHI. i was happy as a pig in ***** on the way home, having everything work. now im like a kid in a candy store everytime i get in my car.
ah, im sure the newness will wear off, i'm saving up now for my COMAND upgrade and Sirius install. that's next on my list next time Steve and Dean come to LA.
