So will the C230 kompressor still exist when these new models come out? Just curious.

If I am reading the link correctly, it states that the automatic is faster to 60 than the manual (6.x vs 8.x). Is that a typo or am I reading this wrong?

Youre reading it wrong. They both have the same 0-60 time. In the real world I'd expect the manual to give faster timed runs, but the auto be faster on the street stoplight drags because its easier to launch.

Strange thing is that the Auto-7 beats the Stick from 60 to 120 km/h by almost 6 seconds! Must be a typo, I refuse to believe that it is true.

Vadim is reading it the way I read it. Seems pretty clear. So Outland, how should it read what is the manual's 0-60(62) time?

I saw an article somewhere regarding the E350 and how the 350 engine is SO much better than the 320. They further go on to say it makes a difficult case for buying the E500.

So, what's the real 0-60(62) with this C350 in manual?

"Simultaneously, the C-Class will also welcome the "Sport Edition" special model"

Ahh the W203's time has run out. Everytime they release a special model....... thats the end of the show.

The manuals are usually slower in kickdown passing situations.

The new SLK uses the same tranny. Same engine. Its about as fat as the C-Coupe as well. So, unless the SLK has much lower final drive, the real world time should be in the mid to high fives for a 272HP C-Class Coupe(or sedan) with the 6speed.

If its slower than 6, MB has curtailed the power in someway.

The test is done with out a manual downshift. Since the automatic automatically down shifts, it is rig'd in the automatic's favor. Try doing it with the manual in second then, upshifting to 3rd at 53 Mph. It's really ugly going from 35 to 75 mph in 6th gear.

The manuals do not have a kick-down mode at all to begin with Autos are pretty sluggish by nature, plus they introduce bigger power losses than manual trannies. That said - the manual trannies do require more effort from the driver to do the same jump - but that's a different matter.

But, regardless - a 6 second difference with the same engine?

Obviously. But there's no way to hold an automatic in top gear. Thus passing induces a kickdown in the auto.

As TN said, these tests are done in top gear. Unless the manual is hooked up to a big torquey engine, and the automatic has few gears, its pretty hard for the manual to win this one.

Top gear? Yeah... like those who drive stick pass in 6th Seriously - this is the only MFR's comparison table that lists such a big discrepancy - and in favor of auto! I take it as a plot against US drivers: first they decided to drop the C Coupe; now they are posting BS numbers to try to force everyone to buy an auto (to ultimately gain enough ground to drop the manual altogether)...

My dealer says the C350 will not come to the US. In fact, he said the C240 and C320 are being discontinued and will not be replaced with the new engines. Only the C230 line is to be continued.
Does anyone have any information that would indicate he is wrong?

It's an old test when manuals were the norm to gauge engine torque. It really is an irrelevent test for automatics. Now, if they timed the downshifts during test, it would be much more interesting.
