Panorama roof ....
So am I right in that even when it's closed and the shade is closed, you can still see out as the shade is not thick? So if it is raining, you will still see the rain hitting your roof if you look up? I thought it would be like an actual trap door like the old roof they had in other models.
Second, is there a way to open the first roof and not the second one? Or you have to open both all the time?

From the pictures I've seen it looks like the shade for the roof is not completely opaque. I don't think it is the mesh like material though that the rear sunshade uses, it is more thick than that. Check out this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w204/211619-pick-up-wife-car-finally-c350-w-p2-pana.html
He shows a picture of the roof with the shade closed.
Also the rear part of the roof does not open ever. The front panel slides over the back panel so that rear passengers can still see through the glass even when the front is open.

The sliding sunroof shade is made of mesh, not solid.
The shade is also power operated -- at a press of a button the front and rear shade retracts into the center bar of the roof. Unfortunately the front and rear shades could not be operated independantly.

Hmmm.. I wonder why they didn't keep the fabric solid cover that blended in with the interior nicely? I'm not sure how I feel about this mesh sunroof shade covering.

The one I test-drove had the panorama roof. The sun was beaming down on the car, so I pressed the button to close the shade. The shade hardly lets in any light. It's not like the mesh shade in a Mini Cooper with a panoramic room - that shade is worthless. This shade seemed to cut all the heat, and let in just a tiny amount of light.

I did check both of my cars, a 2007 S550 and a 2007 E350 and on both cars the shade on the panorama sunroof does not let light through when cosed. I checked inside my garage and when I closed the shades I was unable to see the ceiling light in the garage. So the see through shade must be only on the USA models.

Yes here are a couple of pics of it. The first one is with it fully closed and the second one is with it halfway open... you can just slide it back to reveal the glass. But no light comes through when it is closed which is nice.

Sunroof blind

Hmmm.. If there were two solid sliding panels like the standard sunroof's single panel, Where would they go when open? There certainly isn't any room in the center which is why two roller blinds are used. And they operate simultaneously.
But that's not why I didn't choose the Pano roof....

The shade of Lexus ES' panorama is solid though. I think they split the shade into two parts and it closes on top of the other (Sorry if my English is bad)
Anyway here is the link. http://www.lexus.com/models/ES/featu...lass_roof.html

That Lexus one is stupid, if you are sitting in the front you can't close the back one. At least the Mercedes shade is power. The C-Class pano shade is nearly solid, you won't even notice that it isn't unless the sun is shining directly above.

What do you mean you can't close the back one on the Lexus from the front seat? You mean you have to go to the back seat to close the back roof? I would think the control would be by the driver's side.

I love the panorama roof shade panels on my C-Class Sport Coupé.
The thick cloth material does NOT let any light in at all. It's not that cheap mesh stuff.
The front & rear shade panels retract in unison, to reveal the front & rear window panes.

You can tell from that picture that the Lexus' sunshade is not power. There are hand grips in it like in a regular sunroof cover. So the way it is, you can't close it from the front seat, only from the back. The Mercedes sunshades are power so you can close it from the front.

I have just got an ML350 Bluetec 2014 with the panorama roof. What a great disappointment!!
1. the sunshield is a very light mesh that allows the light and even some sun to go through. There is nothing you can do except to wear a hat.
2. There is no way to open the first half and have the back half close. It open both or none.
3. My wife just got a Great Cherokee Overland that is loaded with all the MB features (from the time MB used to own Chrysler). The panorma roof in that car is a dream. It is all power but: the sunshield is like the cover that comes with the sun roof (it mimics the roof). You can open the first half even open the roof and have the back cover like in a regular sunroof.
I do not know what i am going to do but I will try to get rid of this car. In summa do not order a panorama roof, if we want an opening just order a sunroof..
The car otherwise is great.
