How fast?
<<You might want to check the speed rating of your tires before you do that next time. ...and say your goodbyes to anyone that'll miss you.>>
US models with H-rated tires are governed at 130mph. The speedo might read 2-3 mph higher.

It is so amusing that some people actually believe that higher speed driving translates to more accidents...

The Sport models come with high performance tires as standard (V or W), so 140 mph is well below the limit. Althogh I would reccomend running your tires at the reccomended "high speed" pressure (usually +4-5 psi).

I am a bit surprised that the governer stopped him at 140. Thought I had read somewhere that it was suppose to stop you at 155 mph, but then think of the carnage.

The tires that come with the standard C300 are rated for 130 mph (H rated). High performance in this instance relates to handling ability, not top end speed.

In Europe, the same engine cars are allowed to go up to just past 150, since they give you a higher rated tire there.

Yeah..why would we think that? You have a bunch of cars driving the speed limit, and one car doing more than twice the legal limit, possibly zipping in and out of the cars obeying the law. Why would anyone think there might be a problem with that?

tire pressure was set to 38psi rear 35 front on Z rated tires going straight on an empty road with no cars. Engine didn't cut power till around 138-140 and the speed stayed constant at 140.

Stock 18" AMG's with ContiSport are Y rated and have pulled up to 134 (With a 07 Civic Si taling my dust ) before Gov kicking in. Also if you are relying on your dash speedometer then it may not be correct.

Ya had the digital dash speed which said 140... Was that incorrect?

Speed Limiter Kicked in at...
... an indicated 132 on the southbound 405.
In a 6-speed C300 Sport with 18" AMGs.
I'm fairly certain that all C, E and S-class cars (non-AMG) are in fact electronically limited to 130, regardless of which wheel+tire package is on the car.
Most of the AMG cars have a 155 mph limiter, and a few of the super high horsepower cars can be order with a special package that raises top speed to 186 mph.
Them's the facts as I choose to believe them.

This is, at best, an academic discussion - no speedometer is precise enough to tell you the difference, accurately, between 135 and 140 mph - the 5 mph difference is well within the margin of error.
And to whomever was asking, the digital display is merely repeating what the analog readout is showing - you aren't going to see a difference between the two.
Anyway, the governor in each model is set to keep the speed below one of two thresholds, depending on the market:
-The limit imposed by the tire rating.....OR....
-The 155 mph [250 kph] German "voluntary" limit on those cars in those markets where this is politically acceptable.
So put your foot down if you must....but don't get too excited about the differences we're reading about here. There are too many other variables - temp, wind speed, tire pressures, individual engine production variations, tire make and model.....and then the computer governor.
