Is changing oil & filter a straight forward job?
I heard when you bring it into the dealer, they would suck out the oil. Anyone know the average cost to do it at the dealer vs. bringing it to a non-dealer shop to have it done?
Thanks.
If you take it elsewhere, make sure they use Mobil 1, since it has the 1 year service interval.

Looks even easier than draining.

Thanks.
Given the markup on this, I'd ordinarily do it myself. But considering that I don't want MB claiming that it wasn't done right to possibly sidestep a legit warranty claim, I thought it would be wiser at least on the first change to have the dealer do it.
It does seem strange that mine is higher than the $225 quoted by others on this thread.
You can buy a TopSider oil sucker from West Marine for about $50 which will suck the oil out the dipstick tube in about ten minutes. The same Mann filters can be bought online for far less than the dealer's prices.
The only downside is you must dispose of the old oil eventually.
I've been using a TopSider for years. And yes, it removes more oil than draining it out the bottom.
I will probably eventually buy an oil extractor and try it myself, I have friend that works at a garage I can bring my old oil to dispose.
It'll be interesting to see if there are any changes in the way the car runs.
I'll see if the work order says anything beyond the oil change and fluid top offs.
Very little mess and easy to use and I could change my oil frequently at a fraction of cost of taking it into the dealership. You could drop off the old oil at a local Auto Zone store for recycling for free.
