Just found out from Mercedes that if you replace a bulb and it doesn't work, take the key all the way out of the ignition and then put it back in, then try the light again. They said system resets then recognizes new bulb.

Perhaps I'm doing it wrongly but it doesn't work with me. When I hold the right or left arrow on the wheel, it changes from the preset list of stations to normal radio. Then, if I press it again, I go back to the preset list.

I wish I could change sources from the wheel since it's a pain to open the screen dash to do that, specially since I like it closed all the time when I'm not using NAV.

It would be a good idea to publish here all the secret codes for accessing the hidden functions of our cars. One thing I'd like is being able to lower the volume of the beeps when locking and unlocking the car.

Sorry if this feature has been mentioned before. Today, I found out that...

While we are saying a voice command, the climate control fan will automatically quiet down.

Details: Today was a warm day and I parked the car outside of the garage. When I started the engine, I set the climate control to 70 degree, so the A/C was blowing high trying to cool down the cabin (fan was noisy in high speed)...

And then, I pressed the voice command button on the steering wheel, trying to issue a voice command "FM Radio" to switch my CD to FM Radio...

As soon as I pressed the voice command button, I felt that the climate control fan slowed down automatically (quiet down the fan noise.) And after I said the voice command, the climate control fan automatically speeded up again.

I think that was kind of neat.

this technology was dated back in the 80's.. its call the "accidental engine starting prevention device" My '86 190E has it.

It prevents people accidentally turn the engine while engine is running.

Not a secret, but not necessarily a conscious observation. Notice how the speedometers on recent mercedes-benz cars floats around the outside of the clock, leaving space in the middle for the digital display of pertinent information.

Does anyone know how they implemented that design? i.e the linkage of the needle

if you look closely, the needle is actually connected at the tip where the numbers are.

This might not be a secret, but i just discovered a key hole on the trunk, its under the sill above the license plate holder to the left, it fits the key used for the glove box. I always wondered why there was no key hole, and lo and behold ... there it is.

that is the valet lock out. but I have yet to get it to work on my 09 C300

No, because if you take out the valet key, you also take the key chain with you, and im afraid they might lose my whole key, or just throw it in the corner since they cant hang it. nothing valuable in the glove box anyways

Open your hood and take a look at the open space in front of the hood hinges, this space was intended to house the hood lifting units as found on the W212 but due to delays this had to be scrapped in the last minute, my guess is that they will appear on the W204 facelift.

Its part of a pedestrian protection system, when hitting a pedestrian the hood shoots up a cuple of inches at the hinges to make the hood softer to land on ..

Seem a bit far fetched to me, but I guess a hit pedestrian might enjoy it

That system sounds like a Pre-Safe system. There is no way for the C-class in the US to know it hit a pedestrian until after the person is hit. And even at that point I would say it is too late for the hood to move up.

found this out when cleaning my car... and needed to wipe the entire windshield...

if you manually move the passenger side windshield wiper up... they both move up leaving you space to wipe the lower portion on the windshield... then you can just push them back down...

dunno if this hurts the system... but i do it once in a while.

I assume that system works by lifting the hood as soon as contact is made with the front bumper - as there would be a fractional delay between a pedestrian hitting the front and then the hood. It's a safety feature on the new E class.

Twice my neighbors knocked on the door to tell me my trunk was open. My keys were in my front pocket and probably pressed on the trunk key when I sat down. Also, on the same day, the lock and unlock buttons were dented in so that even the slightest pressure made them work. I need to dig out my spare key.

Well not sure if this is a secret but i noticed it at the MB Shop one day, The Hood when opened instead of leaving it at the angle it stops with the shocks, you can push it back further to a full 90deg angle open.
