found this out when cleaning my car... and needed to wipe the entire windshield...
if you manually move the passenger side windshield wiper up... they both move up leaving you space to wipe the lower portion on the windshield... then you can just push them back down...
dunno if this hurts the system... but i do it once in a while.

Um, sorry to ask, but I can't find the info...
How do you get into the engineering menu?

An interesting solution VS having the req'd space in the standard body design. Very cool. Probably depoly in 100th of a sec or less, long before the pedestrian hit's the hood - it takes a second or two even when hit at low speed.
Not sure when these regs take affect but it is soon.

I was not sure until today that when you accelerate suddenly, the safety belt it tightens over you.
Today I tried few times and now I'm convinced.
( I don't have the optional pre-safe system on my car)

Yeah, do it all the time when I go surfing. Lock the car with the remote and leave it in the carand the key is secured round my neck on a lanyard or in my shorts. Actually one of the reasons I chose the C200 over its German competitor. Brilliant feature for SoCal and Australia. Oi, Oi, Oi.

Trey,
Welcome to the group.
I agree with you about the engineering on the MB. But I think that's a 2 edge sword. It is advanced but when something breaks and you don't want anybody but the dealer working on it, it will be expensive.

It's the same with any newer car - regardless of brand. With more complex cars use it until lease or warranty is up and get rid of them. Extended warranty is essential if going longer than standard warranty.

Everyone probably knows that you can close your windows and moon-roof by holding down the lock button on your key. But I wonder why they made it so that we have to hold it down. I wish there was some feature you could enable where the windows would automatically go up/close when you lock the car. Seems much more logical.
In the US the reason for both having to hold it and line of sight is because of safety laws for children and pets.

Not sure if anyone has posted this up yet in this thread (didn't want to search through 19 pages!), but I believe you need the memory seats to be able to do this:
When putting the car in reverse, you can set the passenger side mirror to aim down so you can see the side of your car and rear wheel better when parallel parking. To do this, when the car is in reverse, make sure the mirror selector is on the passenger mirror (indicated by red light), then adjust the mirror down as much as you would like. When you are happy with your back up setting, hit the memory M button for your seats and then the down arrow on the mirror adjustment button. Now it should be set! If you put the car in drive, the mirror should move back up. The passenger side mirror should now move down everytime the right mirror is selected and the car is in reverse.

You can adjust it and save it if you don't like the position of yours currently. My parents W203 does that and I asked my dealer if mine could. It doesn't outline it in the manual and there isn't a convenience option that turns it on or off. Enigma, maybe yours was preset? I'm not sure, but mine didn't do it before and I couldn't figure out how to do it until my sales guy showed me last week. I don't think it would be specific to Canada and Europe, I would hope this feature is available in the states!

don't know if this was posted yet, but I just discovered yesterday that if you have your wipers on intermittant and you push the wiper stalk in briefly (without triggering the windshield washers), the wipers wipe rapidly 9 times then return to intermittant mode.
This is handy when you are driving in light rain and suddenly get caught in a brief downpour.

I don't know if it is a real secret, but it is sure not common on european cars:
When you push down the cruisecontrol (tempomatic) twice to reduce 20 km/h (or 10 mph) the car actualy starts to brake and brakelights flashes on. My other cars (mostly French
) only takes of trottle and speed reduces at free run. I think it has something to do with the optional active cruise control.

When in engeneering mode:
If you go to HU GPS information you can see the registration of the actual driving speed as registered by the GPS, which is more acurate then the speedometer (difference about 3-4 km/h/1-2 mph)
Also you can see the alti per meter (or foot) in stead of the 50 meter steps of the 'compass screen'.

Not big secrets, but not in the manual either.
I only discovered this now, after a year...
panoroof: go from open roof straight to tilted roof by pushing button upwards
speed limiter (tempomat): cancel by pressing kickdown & car will accelerate immediately
