I don't know if it is a real secret, but it is sure not common on european cars:
When you push down the cruisecontrol (tempomatic) twice to reduce 20 km/h (or 10 mph) the car actualy starts to brake and brakelights flashes on. My other cars (mostly French ) only takes of trottle and speed reduces at free run. I think it has something to do with the optional active cruise control.

it also breaks while going downhill.

if you have your car locked and open the trunk using the key.. if you accidently throw the key inside the trunk.. and close the trunk... the car would lock and so is the trunk....
that really sucks.. it shouldnt do that.. there should be sensor detecting the key that inside the trunk..

A little off topic but a few years ago me and a couple of other guys headed out to Philly for a car meet. A few hours into the trip one guy blew a tire, bent 2 rims, and had to be flat bedded back to NYC. We spent a good 2 - 3 hours sitting idle on a 2 lane highway with NO SHOULDER waiting for a flat bed to come out to West Bummble****. Another hour and the guy was one his way back to the city. We're all ready to keep heading out when another buddy realizes that he locked his key in his trunk . . Fast forward 2 hours when the locksmith comes. It took the guy an hour to get around the aftermarket security system. Next step was to get into the trunk . . Fast forward another 5 hours after everything was completely disassembled from the back of the car . . Seats, bolted amps, bolted boxes, dynomat, etc. We finally got the guys key. Gotta live & learn right?

the W203 does this. if you push unlock if the car is locked and no one opens a door for 30 seconds, doors automatically relock after those 30 seconds have elapsed

I don't know if this was ever posted, or if it's common on newer cars, but if you lock the car, it locks the gas cap door as well... Learned this the hard way after I locked the car while fueling and couldn't close the gas door until I unlocked the car

1. When you access the spare tire, the latch for the floor panel in the trunk neatly hooks onto the edge of the trunk opening holding the the panel open.
2. The speedo guage shows a warning (turns red) when you are driving with the rear seats folded up but fully latched, likewise for the fuel door and trunk.

I have a keyless go and if your keys are in the trunk and shut the trunk, it will pop back up and not lock.
I could figure out why my trunk would not close until I went looking for the keys in my pocket and could not find them. They fell off in the trunk.

The purpose of this is to keep people from accidently leaving their cars unlocked all day or over night when they are putting thier keys in their pocket/purse while walking away from the car (and don't hear the relock or unlock chirp).
If you want to keep it open, just press unlock and open and close one door or unlock them manualy with the door switch.

If you press then panic button on your remote, it will set off the alarm on EVERY MERCEDES around you, not just your car. Unlocking your car will only turn off your alarm. I live next to four other Mercedes and accidentally pressed the panic button early one morning and learned this the hard way... turning mine off and running back inside the house!
