12K Miles, time for extended Warrantee?

Hey Gang,
I am rapidly approaching the 12k mark and did't purchase the Extended Warrantee with the car. Looking at the Me/Be website I see that we have to 12K to purchase it W/O a surcharge. Does anyone know what the surcharge is? Is it worth it to do it now or wait unitll the 49K mark?

I know this has been discussed a bit in other threads, but any personal experiences?

I've been looking into the Extended Warranty myself, and some say it's a complete waste of money, and others say an MBZ owner would be stupid not to get it. Which is it? I've never had Extended Warranty on any of my other cars before, but then again, this is my first MBZ, after all...

I'm chewing on this as well. I did buy a 100K mi warranty for about $1500 on my last new car and it has paid for about half of itself so far with just one use.

guess I got lucky cause Geico not only gave me the lowest insurance rate, but also has MBI. Much cheaper that the extended warranty.

Same here and from what I gather it's a crapshoot. Some people have no issues on these cars and some get their money's worth from warranties.

I recently sprang for the MB 6yr/100K extended warranty. The plan has changed in the past couple of months. It is no longer structured as add two or three years and 50K miles at the end of the new car warranty. Instead, you know up front the total years/miles you are buying. I had considered other options, but in the end went with the MB plan. It essentially is like the all-inclusive new vehicle warranty, except it lasts to 100K miles. And there is never an argument whether or not something will be fixed using new MB parts and labor rates. (My cost was about $3K.)

So is that 6yr/100k miles added on to the end of the original warranty, making the warrantied period 9 yrs? Or does it just lengthen the original warranty to a total of 6 yrs? Either way, sounds all right... $3k, not too great of a price, but a peace of mind is a peace of mind. May have to look more into this with a dealership... find out the exact details and such. Perhaps different dealers will offer different prices...

it's a new car. doesn't seem like a lot of people are having problems with it. I'll wait till factory warranty almost gone before purchasing extended. just got our C350 home today btw.

If you're going to get one, buy the one from MB. Like another poster said, you will get new OEM parts and dealer labor is covered with no deductable or other hassles. Remember too yours are a 1st year model. I paid to extend the CPO one on mine as far as MB would let me.

It used to be for every 1 year/12,000 miles that passes, it cost more percentage-wize to extend the new car warranty. I hope Daimler has improved on that.

I agree 100%, for a couple hundred dollars, the peace of mind knowing that there will never be an issue at any dealer, anywhere, and everything is 100% covered is worth a premium. Also, you can get up to 7 years/100k miles.

It is indeed from original delivery. So my 6yr/100K extended warranty is the total mileage covered--not an additional 6yr/100K.

Also, like everything else, there is a suggested retail price and then there is what you are able to negotiate. I bought mine for $200 over dealer cost. Which is also what my car deal was!

I considered the 7 years, but we will drive it so much that 6yr/100K was a better choice for us.

From two different dealers, including mine. FYI, the 6yr/100K dealer cost is currently $2860 if vehicle has less than 12 months/12K miles.

I did not write that one down; but if memory is correct, it was $3300.

I really should be talking to the dealer about this, but are terms and conditions of the warranty negotiable? I mean, do we sit down and work out a deal with each dealer, shopping around for terms, or is there a set warranty "package" that we buy and all we need to worry about is the dealer markup?

There are set packages for all MB dealers. You just pick the one you want and then shop for the best price. It does not matter where you buy the MB extended warranty. They are good at all MB dealerships and are zero deductible. My dealer was willing to work with me on the price. But if your dealer will not accept less than MSRP, you can contact Lisa Lehrbaum at Courtesy Motors MB (530) 893-1300. I did not end up buying from her, since my dealer met my price. However, Lisa seemed easy to work with over the phone.

Thanks for the help. But wouldn't dealers be giving me grief/drama over even minor repairs if I've bought the warranty elsewhere? I'm thinking I should be buying the warranty from the dealership where I plan on having the work done... no?

No. It does not matter. It gets recorded into the MB system-wide computer. So it is just like the original warranty. When a service department types in your VIN, is shows you have the MB extended warranty. And, remember, MB (not the dealership) is paying for repairs. Any MB service department is happy to get the repair work.

That said. I get along well with my dealership. So all things being equal, I would rather give them my business.

I was reading on warrantiesgonewild.com and the earlier you purchase the better. I would purchase an extended warranty if it is only 1500 bucks....
