Maybe it's a naive question... is it possible to enable an aftermarket rearview camera WITHOUT using the STAR system?
An installer told me that he heard about a key combination that could be used directly from the Comand NTG 2.5.. I don't know if it's urban legend or not.
It did that to me couple of times, at SW update menu when you pull down common knob. I did the following to clear this. Eject the CD, hit clr key beside common knob. Re insert the CD and during loading hit clr and press command knob many times. Abort icon will highlight and you can exit from there. I warned this on the other post not try SW update.
Please.. help me out.. I have a same problem.. but I tried and failed.. what is the common & command knop and clear button?
And, any cd is ok for this method?
I know this is old but does anyone know of a model camera we need? i know there is new technology out there and mounting options. I know years ago people were using the kenwood is there a new camera we should buy? I finally plan on buying a camera for my C350. I know I'm late.

Hi Eric
I prefer this type --- picture is very clear - but installed a little annoying and difficult - but I canceled them some stuff ----- black box - and kept WIRE electricity and video - and I avoid passing the cables inside the car - I bought - Wireless Transmitter - - It is easy to install - just needs to electricity from the fuse No. 70 - and reached WIRE video and the second set by the sender in the car - anywhere close to the power point - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170-Car-Ca...E:L:OU:GB:3160

Mind sending me a few pictures of how it looks on the screen. Ideally I want a camera that give guidance lines that curves when I turn my wheels etc
I think the factory OEM camera has the lines that curve/move as you turn the steering wheel. From my knowledge (and my current aftermarket camera self install) all after markets cannot do this. It would have to have some sort of connection to the steering wheel in order for this to work. The lines on my aftermarket camera are static.

I didn't snap a picture, but my 2013 C300 factory camera doesn't have lines.
had an original benz video interface and camera installed this weekend.. Chinese version but I can live with that... Has guidance lines and all
Are they dynamic guide lines?
The W204 has the worst backup camera of any car in existence. The ones in the newer cars are great.
I was thinking they don't have guide lines because they may lack wheel angle sensors. I was messing in the Comand engineering menu and I enabled a screen that showed and accelerometer and wheel angle. The accelerometer worked but the wheel angle did not.
So that got me to thinking, do the cars with ILS have guide lines?

I have ILS and I only have the camera guidelines not the car default ones.
Interesting, I figured you would know . I'd be curious to see if you get wheel angle reading on the command screen. It comes up when enabling some sort of off road setting in the engineering menu.

Can you be more specific in the setting? There are tons.
I would love to have the dynamic guidelines, but from everything I've read, it was not available on the W204 C Class I believe 2008-2012.
The 2014 in this video has it but it says is integrated
Description states: The Mercedes Benz Integrated rear view camera retrofit now includes dynamic guidelines which move with the steering position, and Optical display for the front and rear sensors for vehicles that have the Mercedes Benz genuine parking system installed. The video shows all of these features in a 2014 model vehicle. For vehicles fitted with COMAND, there is also an option to have the rear camera system without dynamic guidelines and optical parking sensor display, as well as another option to retrofit the complete camera system using genuine (OEM) Mercedes
Sounds like you need Parking Assist for the steering wheel sensor which I believe was 2013 or 2014.
