The sport mode in general will keep your RPMs higher as well as lock you out of top gear so I would expect it would take a toll on mileage.

So in sport mode the tranny never goes to 7th gear? That doesn't seem right. Try changing modes at 70mph, the rpms stay the same meaning no change in gear.

Comfort starts the car in second gear so that it doesnt have as much oomf. i would suspect that you would get better mileage in comfort. 17 sounds normal if you drive mostly in the city

The one thing we noticed was that in C mode the gearshift was more subtle while in S mode, there is a noticeable jerk when the upshift happens.

17mpg?? I average about 23 in my C350 and I drive hard every once in a while too.

I did a little test a few months ago and according to the car, I averaged about 27mpg at 80mph on the freeway (no stopping, cruise on).

It isn't right.

It's 1st gear that isn't used in addition to lowering shift points and using a higher geared reverse.

Sorry about that guys...coming from someone that doesn't get on the hwy much... It will hold you out of top gear much longer than C mode but will shift up once the speed becomes high enough.

I think the C mode shifts from D1 to D2 quicker.

It shifts quicker on Sport mode but shifts longer on Comfort mode...is this correct?
I am confused...I kind of like Comfort mode as it doesn't shift too quickly...but shouldn't it be for Sport mode? Could mine be mistakenly set up?

Actually I think its the other way around, in C mode, it shifts "sooner", lower RPM

in S mode, it shifts "later", higher RPM...

I hope I'm right...lol o/w there is something wrong with MY car...hah

"C" mode the shifts will feel softer, and earlier in the RPM range. This setting will start in 2nd from a dead stop.

"S" Mode the shifts will feel harder, and be later in the RPM Range. This setting will start in 1st gear from a dead stop.

This of course is for equivalent throttle application. If you mash the throttle in either setting the engine will rev all the way to red line and shift.

With 3k miles so far, my average has been 15mpg. Yes, 15 -- 90% of the time in stop-and-go downtown driving.

I get close to 27mpg on the highway, driving smoothly.

Similar here. Driving my C350 on small roads hard, rather than gently, yields a 10% improvement in mileage.

Milage

After 8K milage my average was 10.6L/100Km, 80% C mode, every now and then a redline burst in S-Mode. I think I am happy enough.

C- Mode it shifts smoother and earlier at lower refs.
S-Mode it shifts later at higher refs and feels quicker from pull-off, and slow down quicker till stop.

With Speed limiter activated, it cuts the engine trying to reach reduced speed quickly without brakes, I like this, C - or S-Mode.

I found that I mostly only use the paddle on steering wheel to make sure it's in 7th gear running, varies according to area.

My C350 does the same thing

In S mode from a dead stop it shifts in to second fast than if I have it on C mode and on both times I pushed the thorttle about 1/3....
