Media Interface on C63

Hi, I hope someone here can help me with this. I just got a 2009 model C63 here in Korea, where unfortunately the cars pretty much come with the same package that Mercedes-Benz Korea sets (options are possible but it would become a special order and take too long).

I understand that the 2009 model C-Class all have the option 518 which is the Media Interface (also called UCI or Universal Consumre Electronics Interface). In my COMMAND manual there is a section in Audio that also describes how to use this. I have also seen this as an option when building the C-Class on Canada and Europe Mercedes websites (costing around $375~).

According to the manual there should be 3 cables in my glove compartment (AUX, USB, and iPod). However, there are no such cables in my glove compartment. I called the dealer and they said I could purchase the cables which cost about $50, but I do not see any sockets in the glove compartment where this could plug in.

Does anyone have these cables in their glove compartment and if so, where is it exactly plugged in to? (back, top, left, right, is it square or circular, etc.).

Since the Media Interface or UCI option costs about $375, I figure just buying the cable will not work, anyone know where I can buy this option?

Are you sure you do have the 518 option? Did you check from the vehicle data card?

I cannot disagree with that. But I cannot agree with it either.

But I do understand he is talking about the UMI.

yes I was talking about UMI
I was just asking him, if he was talkin about non mm package car or not.
I thought the c class with mm package (7 inch monitor) would not have the UMI, where as non mm package (5 inch monitor) would have UMI.
correct me if I am wrong bc cars in Korea are tended to be better equipped.

for instance my e class in korea has so much feature in it compare to US version.
well... it was more pricy like around US 100000.00 anyway

my c class does not have mm package which gives me the eligibilty for UMI
I figured that applies to cars in Korea too?

Yes, you are correct. Unfortunately here in Korea, Mercedes Korea determines the standard package and we are pretty much forced to buy that package set only. If we want to change or add options, that would become a special order and would take months. Fortunately as indicated above, the standard package is pretty good and very well equipped.

To your question, if you do not have the mm package then you can iinstall the UMI - you are correct in that it also applies to cars in Korea. My C63 does have the MM package and therefore the UMI does not apply, but I can install the UCI if and when that becomes available as a retrofit option. This is factory option code 518 which I just confirmed yesterday with my service advisor that my car does not have.

So in conclusion, even in Korea (and everywhere else), if you have the MM package (the full 7" Comand) then you need the UCI (375$ option). If you do not have the MM package (i.e., Audio20) then you need the full UMI ($1800 option). Cheers!

Being a Korean-American I was able to understand it. But he wrote again in English so it's all good. I understand that sometimes it's tougher to get the right message across in English for all of our International members...

Ive now retrofitted a couple of the UCI (Media Interface) (option 518) to W204, and have written it up for all to enjoy

Hope that is useful
