"ESP Not Available"

Last night when I started my car and drove off, an error message popped up saying "ESP Not Available, See Operator's Manual". The yellow triangle for ESP is on too. I figured it was just a one time thing, but all day today it keeps popping up as well. Sometimes while I'm driving, it goes away, but then it will notify me again.

Anyone else had this problem?

haha.

Actually, it says "ESP Inoperable", not "Not Available". My mistake.

Check with your dealer, it could be a serious problem. Like it cant control the brakes or something...

Yup. Saw it twice in the first year. Gone after a restart and has not re-occured in the last six months or so. Might have been something about ABS at the same time which is of no concern. Even if ABS is offline, braking is normal.

A transient hiccup, methinks.

Had this exact same error...called dealer they said bring it in. They had to reset something in the "steering angle". Hasn't happened since. The SA did say it is a problem that needed attention. It seemed to be a software problem...
Fixed now though...definitely bring it in...

Yes - It could be the steering angle sensor out of whack

Get the car onto a nice smooth piece of cement and turn the steering from lock to lock 5 times. This will reset the sensor if it is that causing the problem.

Cool, I'll have to try that.

ALSO...I tried to use my cruise control tonight, and it says "Cruise Control inoperative" when I try and use it...I guess this is all tied in to one system?

Yes they are all interlinked. Might also be a speed sensor - You need to get hold of an OBDII scanner & download the stored codes. That should tell you. Even if you buy a $50 little gem from Kragens/PartsAmerica - You should carry one in your car.

The cheapest model you don't have to look up code meanings

What I use:

The cheap one is just fine to carry in your car.

Well thanks....I should really get one.

As of an hour ago, my cars back to normal, no errors or anything. Cruise control is working. We'll see if that lasts though. thanks

ESP NOT Available

HI I have followed your old posts - I have a W204 C220 CDI 2007 model. My car is out of warranty, and I have it serviced regularly. Tyres are ok still, although not new - Now I also got this ESP Not Available, See Owners Manual message on the dash screen!

Then if I stop, turn of the car, remove the key and start again it is gone. After driving 5 or 6 minutes, the Same msg comes back on and the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark comes on - and the car is slowed down and has no power !!!

First it did this once or twice a day - now today it did it almost 20 times!!!

What can this be? Anyone pls HELP!

ESP Not Available

Hi there - yeah I tried the steering Angle reset without any luck, so I took it to Merc dealership. They did a Lab diagnostics and found that the "brake line switch" was malfunctioning and the left engine boost pipe was collapsed!

Guess that figures huh!

Thanks for the reply and help guys !

Wow - The brake light "switch" is part of the ABS unit. I wonder what they did about that?

Anyway ~ pleased it's fixed.

I also had the ESP problem frequently, this happened as soon as the car accelerates and it made a feint sucking sound, I took it to two dealers and they only reset fault values, it worked for a short while but the ESP problem came back I took my MB 220 CDI to a local ex MB mechanic and found that the boost pipe was torn, after replacing the pipe the problem was solved
