2009 C350
just my two cents.........

Been reading the pros and cons of the old versus the new mirrors, I drove my friend's 350 w the "elephant ears" before purchasing my car which is an 09 with the "new" bat ear mirrors, as a matter of choice I prefer the elephant ears, not so much for the noise but I can see better out of them, the new ones are crap for visibility, I will take safety over wind noise any day. just my humble opinion, for those of you with the elaphant ears, good for you. drive on..................

And so it's your contention that the mirror glasses themselves are smaller than the elephant ear versions? I suggest that you go back and read post #62 of this very thread.

yesssss

If you don't mind at all, I will stick to my opinion, yes, I do prefer the old elephant ears, that is why it's called an opinion, any more additional area you can see out off in my book is worth gold for safety. Even if you say in post #62 blah blah blah, it's how you perceive it when you drive, maybe in my old age my eyes need more mirror surface area to target blind side traffic, having driven both types of mirrors I will take the older ones in a heart beat, tho' many will not agree, it's a free society here aka "forum.

btway, you did measure them right? are they actually smaller than the previous elephant ears? That was my "contention" in the first place...........

Or here's a totally mind-blowing thought. Maybe, those with the newer "ears" dont want to accept that this is design over function.

Well my 2p worth. I think the new mirrors look superb. I like the clean finish. Almost came within a whisker of getting them. But, wife said no way. having sat in a model with the new mirrors, she said it was like being back in the E class. Yes, you can "make do" with the mirrors but why? Dumbo ears seems to give an a better peripheral vision.

So, be nice if you could have the dumbo ears with the new outer housing. no wait, that would be too easy for MB. Giving people what they want? Are y'all crazy? How would they explain that? I still grin at the phone call when MB customer service tried explaining to me, that an automatic can stall in reverse if you dont apply enough gas (they weren't kidding...). Still i guess it's better than being told it's an " advanced engineering feature to save CO2". Get out and push it in the driveway.

My post said I measured so why you are asking mystifies me. Now please read the following so that this size business can be put to rest.

Because the Euro mirrors have convex glasses on both sides, I decided to change the left side glass to a flat GLK glass. The GLK (for one) uses the same mirror head. When I had the new flat GLK glass in my hand for the left side, I placed it face-to-face against the original right mirror (reversed, of course) and saw that it was the same size EXCEPT at the upper inner corner where it was 1/4" shorter. That is INCONSEQUENTIAL because that corner of the mirror is not used.

Have you ever heard the old saying, "Don't try to confuse me with facts because my mind is made up?"

Maybe under a very loose interpretation of "policy", but it would be quite a challenge to label them "defective". Every auto manufacturer reserves the right to make customer satisfaction improvements in their vehicles without any liability to retrofit earlier production.

if you think MBUSA would approve a warranty claim like this one, you are REALLY dreaming.

It's not an option. It's standard equipment.

O ok, Thanks. So when does it activate, because I know my Acura has a button for it. I am guessing that the heated side mirrors activates when the rear defroster is on. Correct me if I am wrong.

1400 for LAME *** mirrors...and another 700 on top of that for a non convex?
What a waste of money IMHO...couldve gotten so many other mods that most people would actually notice...sport bumper...carbon lip...diffuser...wheels...body kit...the last thing i would spend that kind of money is on mirrors lol...they look OK but not 2100 good...lol
to each his own i guess...

They switch on automatically as and when required, same for my Smart ForTwo.

Hi all...newbie here. Just bought a C350 with the bigger mirrors and i want the newer smaller mirrors. Just wondered if anyone here, (preferebly from UK) has managed to get them swapped over on warranty. If so did you have to kick up a huge fuss?

The only other thing i can think of is a sneaky planted fault ;o) that will force a swap out.

Dont fancy forking out £500 for a new set!

Not on any MB I've ever owned. The heated mirrors and heated washer jets were activated with rear window heat.

My apologies. I had forgotten where I saw your request. I am having a problem posting the picture I wanted because MBWorld will not allow posting a pic more than once which makes no sense to me. There may be a way around this but it escapes me at the moment and changing the title of it has no effect. Thumbnails of a wheel below which won't be of any help.

Well, that's a little harsh but yes, it turned out to be too expensive. But I'm updating the car to the new equipment.

And as far as adding the items that appeal to YOU, I think you are just trying to fit in with your pals who have spent thousands in "mods" that will have to be removed when their lease cars are turned in. I'll bet your car is silver, right?

To each his own, I guess.....

Got the same mirrors on my MY09 W204 euro spec. They fold in and dime and if I go in reverse the mirror on the right side moves downwards so I can see the curbs!

Have you tried opening the picture in MS Paint or some other editor and saving the file as a different type (.bmp .gif .png)? Perhaps this, as well as a title change would be enough?
