Universal Media Interface or Nav + 42

I just got this from the mail,

"Nav + 4 is a multifunctional navigation system and entertainment center available as a standard audio system upgrade for most MY08 - MY09 C-Class and MY10 GLK-Class vehicles with an Audio 20 CD headunit. Together, Nav + 4's map navigation, with real-time traffic for life at no additional cost, and in-vehicle music integration allows you to keep your finger on your music streams and your commute routes - all accessed simply and conveniently through integrated steering wheel controls or the central controller."

Dose this mean that we will get a free upgrade with real-time traffic? Multi-Media included?

I think UMI = Nav+4. Got the same email and did a search on Nav+4 and came up empty. The description sounds like UMI.

Same here, but I was only looking to see what it was.

Isn't the question if UMI can be updated at all? I mean has anyone been able to find a real map update? We know that it is supposed to be updated via the USB interface and even a small SW patch exists but so far I have not seen an official update being available.

Perhaps Vic would be able to find an update for both questions.

Can you point to a specific section referring to UMI updates (excluding the SW patch that they can provide)?

I have an UMI installed in my car. My suggestion is not to do it. The quality is good but the navigation maps are not that updated. I called MB dealer and they told me the USB update is $199 and one time installation only. And if Im not mistaken the UMI is for only Canada & US only if u buy it here and EURO maps if you buy it at Europe.

So UMI doesn't allow you to load maps, other than the pre-installed ones?

well u get after market kits that allows you to connect generic GPS devices - just add your SD card with map to it...

search the forum and you will find the links - it upgrades the screen to watch dvd etc.

Wrong. UMI can be updated as many times as there are new map database releases. I think the dealer had claimed kevin.vernal that only one car can be updated from one USB stick. I doubt this is correct.

I still have our 204 UMI to be updated (some complain that the update brings some issues while it does also bring a lot better maps) but the the USB updated would have to be PIN code restricted if it worked for one car only but the shops selling this update do not mention anything like this. Even in this case the USB stick itself would be reusable, one would have to pay for the PIN code (so why not get the USB stick too).
