Tire question for 18inch wheel

Hi all,

so I purchase a set of 18s now i need to get a set of cheap tires...

I was getting quote for good year tire front $89 rear $113 while Tire King front $87 rear $102 and falken tire front $65 rear $209.

I also found a some tire on the internet for cheap

Front tire Nankang NS2 for $64.50
Rear Tire Nankang NS2 for $86.30

size of the tires are 225/40-18 for front , 255/35-18 for rear.

as i dont care about the performance of the tire since i'm dont drive fast just want some decent cheap tires to roll with my rims.. my question is would any of these tires effect my TPM or traction control?

do you think I should go head and order the Nankang tire or the other set above?

would it be bad if I mix the brand name tire for front and rear?
let say Falken tire for front while Tire King brand for Rear?

Please help

What type of climate are you in? Do you need a tire that can perform in snow/ice?

I wouldn't buy new tires that are mismatched. Try calling tirerack on the phone, they have good knowledgeable staff that can assist you.

Car and Driver had a review of budget tires in the August issue last month. The Dunlop Star Spec came in #1. Hankook Ventus V12 EVO came in 2nd and Kumho Ecsta XS came in 3rd. Others budget tires to consider would be Sumi's HZR Z III or General's Exclaim UHP. Never heard of Nankang, maybe they're good, but I prefer to stick with brands that are household names. Personally tires are the last thing I would be skimp on.

I don't think TMPS or traction control will come in to play with your selection.

Good luck!

i know this is going to sound weird but i actually had a set of the cheapo Nankang NSII's on my last bmw. i don't remember exactly what i paid but it was REAL, real cheap. for the money, they were fantastic but you'll go through them in under 15k miles easy...I think they are korean and korea is actually making pretty good rubber now a days.

I have the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's on the w204 and they are crap. car is lowered on H&R supersports and handles great but the tires have got to go. no grip what so ever. although very fun and extremely easy to break loose from the pavement when screwing around they are scary and dangerous in anything other than optimal driving conditions...IMO.

also, it doesn't hurt to mesh front and back tires as long as they are both the same on the axel...obviously.

get some Pzero's and be done with it

I live in new york city, not much of snow here. even when theres snow it get melt fast because of the traffic in new york. so weather is really not my concern.

I also notice the link I post for nankang NS2 front set is Standard load while rear set is Extra Load..

dose that matters? or do they have to match?

I check the brand you mention such as general, they are fairly pricy. going for over 150 for rear.

really trying to limit my budget.. as i only drive during the weekends to go party and picking girls

im from MA so similar weather. if your not looking for performance go with the Nankang or some cheap Hankooks. Falken makes a good good cheap tire too as well as a great pricey one. if you have the option for XL go with it as the w204's are kinda on the heavy side. any tire shop or online supplier can help you with these questions too. make sure everything is correct otherwise you'll be spending money to have your car actually drive worse then when you started.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I have had General UHPs. I replaced a set of P Zero Nero M+Ss with them. They were okay, but nothing compared to the P Zeros. Now the two branda are comparably priced at Tire Rack. My Contis will be replaced with the Pirellis when the time comes. I wouldn't cheap out on tires. I have read many bad reviews about Nankang tires. One common theme was tread separation (like re-caps). In case you do want them, check eBay. There were many new sets there last time I checked.

You don't know how important the tires are, don't you? I understand it's just a lease car, but you're the one who driving it and you're risking your life with some cheap tires!

I agree with misterng, cheap tires can ruin your day or night or worse and not care if the car is lease or buy... whatever you decide, drive carefully... especially on cheap tires
