Fogs replaced with LED (DRL) !

My friend finally did his latest mod, the LED !
They are so bright, i could see them coming from far away.

The DRL (Daytime Running Lights) is actually genuine parts from the new E-class, the W212. The mod shop specially modified the brackets to fit our AMG bumpers. They blends in so well with the shape of our bumpers. Cost him about USD790 to get it done.

I think it looks more sporty compared to the thin facelift version that is coming next year. And the one from Carlsson doesn't impress me either, which cost about USD800 + shipping + installation.

I think i will choose this for my car too. What do you guys think?

Yes I really like those, and they look better than the upcoming 204 LED.s however I didnt like the plastic cover that appears to be completely smooth?

I personally wouldnt want a job that screams DIY, and with the above plastic cover it just doesnt look good enough for me.

The cover is not DIY. The mod shop is selling the LED together with the cover. All that needs to be done is some screws and simple wiring. Sort of Plug N Play?

Have always admire those Audi guys with their bright LEDs.
I personally won't mind the smooth cover. With LEDs as bright as these, hmm...all eyes on the LEDs and not the cover?

+1 Their leds look great.

Few questions for you:

1) What is the modshops name or web address?
2) Since these replaced the regular fog lights, do they funtion the same way, meaning when you turn slowly does only one side turn on? or does your friend turn them on manually?

The mod shop is based in Singapore. I don't think they have web address.
I think they ship international.

There are 2 ways to wire this. The conventional way is to remove the wirings from the fogs and wire them to the LEDS. That way, you should get one side turn on when you turn the steering. But that means your eyelid lights and rear light also turn on, not so cool during daytime?
The other way is to wire them in a way that whenever the engine is running, the LEDs will be on. But that would mean you don't get one side turn on when turning the steering.
I am actually fighting to decide which way i should wire them.

Strange thing is I have seen this mod a couple of times earlier, but then with a mesh plastic cover, most likely a modded W212 cover, now THAT looked good

Yes, i think i seen that in a previous post somewhere. I called my friend about this and he said it was custom job and will likely to cost around USD1000 !

I think i rather save the money for other mods?

What i feel most secure about this is the use of original W212 LEDs. Rather than those cheap taiwan LEDs and doesn't blend in to the bumpers.

+1 on the meshed cover version, that does look a bit more stock to me too. I wonder is it possible to get this version and convert it to the Mesh?

I won't spend money like that for led lights and discard my fogs, I'll spend it to get a C63 steering wheel first. It's what's inside that counts to me....

Looks good, closeup the mesh version may look a bit better, but How can we get a price for the parts, so one could self-install? Seems like it might not be too hard to DIY?

Agree, close up the mesh looks better. But from a short distance away i guess no one will really bother except stop and admire the bright LED

Yes, i believe it is not hard for DIY, the just some screws to put the cover in place, plus very basic wiring skills. That should save you on installation charges if you send it to a mod shop.
My friend did it USD790 including installation. Cost of labour here is cheaper compared to USA. I guess we can get something like USD700 + shipping?
Let me find out from the shop.
Anyone interested?

Somewhere around the $600 would be good, since they did $790 install included.

All they need to do is source the back piece, led is already from MB (no idea how much the led cost though)

Since we're photoshopping, I thought I'd work on the size and positioning a little.

To my eye, it looks better for the light to be raised slightly, jogged to the outside a little and thin down the hockpuck end a little.

What do you guys think?

I am guessing the installation cost would be around USD80 to USD100.
Its Saturday night i don't think i can get the answer right away.
I wonder if they can offer a group discount if there is more interest in this LED.

I raised the exact same question before. I too find it looks more center if raised slightly. And the explanation was they have to follow the curve of the bumper. If they shift it to where we think is the ideal center, then the light will point outwards to the side. Which is not very nice if viewed from the front.

I see that you have some of those sylvania chrome signal bulbs.
I don't like how you can see the green, blue, and purple so easily.
I'm looking for chromed signal bulbs, but having a hard time finding good quality ones.
I don't like StealthAuto's $30 a pair...

Yeah perhaps leaving the plastic piece black may look cheesy so why not get it painted body colored then it may flow better with the front bumper ?? It looks pretty cool but anything above $500 sounds a bit high for a mod like this ?? Thanks for sharing !

while i do like the hockey sticks better than just the LED line on the new C, I would still get just the LED line if that is whats coming on the stock C.
