Can Somebody give me an Estimate on how much the labor is to change the rear break pads??

I am taking my car in tomorrow to have the rear brake pads replaced with the updated parts under warranty.

They might make me pay for labor though...

What would be normal and fair labor to just swap out the rear pads?? Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes right????

Want to make sure they don't gouge me and take advantage of me...

Thanks

I'd go ballistic if they even hinted at making me pay labor for something that is covered under a recall/TSB.

ya they claim its "a case by case" basis as it is just a service bulletin and not necessarily a recall and that hey arent replacing everything for free for everybody, and only some people, it just "depends" whatever that means...

ok so basically it shouldnt be more than $100 labor to change the rear pads...

if i just have em give me the pads, is it an easy enough DIY???

i searched but couldnt find any brake pad diy threads...

Rear are quite simple to do yourself but you will have to be really confident or have some experience to do so.

Glad they are taking care of it. Did they explain to you the terms of it when they called you back? They should have already discussed with your dealer then call you back on it.

According to MB, I believe it is listed as 1 service hour or so. I'm guessing it will be below $150 just to get them done.

The new pads are amazing btw, they do not squeak nor do they produce much dust.

With these brake pads, are the front wheels going to be dirtier than the rear wheels like I see on most cars?

Not that I'm saying that the front wheels will magically get dirtier, I mean the rear wheels will actually be clean for once.
You know what I mean.

if you are going to the dealer than i don't know how much it cost... if you do it yourself, i think you might need special tools to open it.. i am getting mine done for $50 from a benz repair shop ... i am swapping mine out for "axiss deluxe advanced" brake pad... just the rear though... can't wait for the results...lol

Shoot if it's $150 bucks for labor I might as well cop the pads and take it to an Indy shop... What is the value of the two rear pads?

Why would the front be dirtier than the rear wheels? Thw W204 are 4 wheel discs brakes, front and back gets dirty. When you see only the front get dirty and the back stays clean, you're probably seeing a front disc, rear drum setup.

On normal cars, even assumin a 50/50 weight bias, the majority of braking will be done by the front wheels. Just look at how much larger front brakes are in comparison to rear brakes. This will cause front brakes to dust more than rear brakes.

Early w204 cars have seen an issue due to pad material that the rear brakes dust more than the front brakes. This is a known issue and MB has been replacing rear brake pads for free on certain w204 C-class cars.

RAPED by dealer for Rear Brake Pad Install Labor

I am at the dealer right now in West Covina where I thought I was getting my whole rears covered after complaining to MBUSA about the excessive brake dust issue and how the "updated parts" solved it.

MBUSA made me the appointment this morning and gave me the impression that they were covering the whole thing, but I get there and they are charging me $135 for one hour of labor! One hour??? man... oh well... i was about to take the pads and run, but i figured it was not worth the hassle of tracking down a local indy shop and i didnt want to make the service manager all sad...

those that got the whole thing covered under warranty are lucky!

Mannnnnnn u make me feel bad
like I didn't man up enough to get it done.... I tried so hard, showed em my complaint within the first few thousand miles, told em many other people in this forum are getting it covered... Bottom line, it's totally up to what dealer u bring it to... Mbusa was useless, spend countless times on the phone and the best I could do was compromise for free pads and get raped by bs labor

I hear you. Dealers, especially in the LA area seem to be a BIG hit-or-miss. I would have told them not to touch the car and I'd go somewhere else. $135 isn't a big hit though, if I was in a rush I might have just said F-it too.

Sorry you got ripped off, but I just brought mine into the dealership today for my first "A" service, install replacement Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Tires and they are installing the 4th Sirius Sat Module and this time a new antennae, they called and asked to keep it overnight as the headliner removal and re installation will take some time for the antennae, they also said MB Germany has been on the phone asking them to perform and re-perform a bunch of tests because they don't want to pay the dealership for the Sat module and antennae, when I brought it in this morning I showed them info from the thread on excessive brake dust and the star bulletin and the replacement part number for the brake pads, they installed that also they told me, no questions asked. My car is just coming up on 1 year and has around 10,500 miles on it.

I replied in a post similar to this before.

My service rep told me there's no warranty for break dust since the breaks are still good and nothing was wrong with them as they functioned fine.

What he did tell me was that if I complained about "Squeaking breaks" then he would mark down to change the rear breaks to the new dustless breaks.

So...I said "yea that's what I meant...yea the rear breaks squeak......yeaaaaa"

hour later...new rear breaks..no more dust.

been going to the same rep ever since.
