Minimum replacement is pairs ie both front or both rear. Exceptions do apply of course like you only have a small amount of miles on them and one failed for some reason. If I remember rigth you can get a TPMS sensor from tire rack for aroung 69.95 but that was a while ago.

thanks Ron... Does it matter which TPMS Sensor you get or are they all universal??

Also, is the TPMS sensor seperate from the valve stem? ie if I have a broken valve stem do I need a new TPMS sensor and a new valve stem? Or are they combined in one?

like would these work?

the TPMS sensor is all one piece so your gonna have to replace the whole sensor. a universal sensor wont work cause all sensors are different for every make of car and if you get the wrong one your car wont pick up the sensor. If you have a costco in your area check out there tire shop cause they have some cheep prices on sensors. I think the MB one is around $60.00

I don't think they were listed at the site. Contact Luke at Tirerack(look under the Tire and Wheel subforum) and get a quote. The prices are good.

this is my first car with the TPMS, how do you go about changing tires with these? does it matter? When I usually buy tires, I have them shipped from tirerack to an authorized dealer and they install the tires. Are there any special instructions or do the dealers know how to correctly hook up the TPMS?

The tire installer would only replace the tires and leave the TPMS on the rims. The only time you will remove the TPMS is if you are moving them to another set of rims.

The thing we these TPMS is that they also ' oxidizes ' like our valve stem caps !! Last week when i got my new rims the mechanics working on the wheels said that they were having a tough time taking the TPMS off due to this issue and that they wont be responsible for breaking them but will try their best to not break or tear when switching them out. Thank God they were able to do all four without tearing anyone of them but i sure was holding my breath until they were done I believe one of these are like $100 each wheewwwwww !!!
