H&R SuperSport Springs Installation

Well my SuperSports are on their way and I've started calling around to get quotes on installation. The shops i'm talking to specialize in mercedes, bmw, etc. and are estimating 5 - 6 hrs of labor. At an average price of $95 an hour it's going to cost me over $500!! Does this seem right to you guys? The DIY's estimate 3.5 hours, so I figure a professional could do it in 2 - 3 hours? Any suggestions?

its not a tough job to do yourself, assuming you have the tools. i did mine myself in 3-3.5 hours and it was my first time with a 204. there is a place where i get dyno'd that installs springs for about 200. i wouldn't pay more than that. dealerships will always be more expensive but it's such an easy job any quality shop can handle it.

make sure to get an alignment!

From my experiences and opinion, 5-6 hours is a bit long. i say it should be around 3-4 hours depending on the skill level and how experience the shop is and if you get an aligment then it should be around 4-5 hours. the price seem a little bit high of $500 (depending on where you live as well). I lowered my M6 with an aligment for only $450 and that is pretty cheap. again, my connections and locations pay a little part in it so the pricing does not reflect for everyone! good luck

I don't have all of the tools and would need to rent the spring crompressor, as well as do everything with jack stands (no lift). That reminds me, they wanted to charge me another $120 for an alignment.

All of these prices were quotes from 2 independent shops, I don't even want to know what a dealership would charge. The search continues...

Do not skip the alignment and a fair price for the spring replacement it's about $400.00 and $100.00 for the alignment.

look for eurotuner car shops. i had mine done at a VW customizing shop. Took them 4.5 hours.... its a really complicated process in comparison to how the springs were installed on my 350z. i paid 300... no alignment. pay cash to avoid tax as always

It looks like I might have received the wrong springs. I ordered H&R SuperSports which are blue on the H&R website. The ones i received are red and have the same part number as the coilovers.... Pretty sure a return is in my future and thus the wait to lower continues.... Any chance the supersports and the coilover red springs are the exact same? I doubt it.

So the H&R distributor that sold me the springs called this morning and said this has happened before. Apparently I wasn't the first customer to notice this difference. Basically, what I have is in fact the SuperSports, even though the number printed on the red spring is the same as the coilover part number. According to them, the springs on the H&R website are just stock photos and the color doesn't matter....

I have to say I am still skeptical, it can't be coincidence that the same color and 5 digit part number printed on my so called SuperSport springs is the same as the coilover's spring. I would fill more comfortable if the part number on the box matched the part number on the part.... I know there are other members here with SuperSports, what color are your springs???

i was going to reply to you yesterday but wasn't sure if my info was correct and didn't want to mislead.

i believe the race springs are blue and the super sports are red.

I have super sports and they are red, albeit a couple years old so i'm not sure if they changed the colors. i don't think so. i think the super sports ARE the same springs as the coil overs...reason being, don't they initially both drop the exact same amount...until you dampen them further?

I can check the box when I get some time this week and get back to you.

anyone, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

After a closer look, my springs have the number 29075 and the coilover part number is 29052... They're different! It was my fault for not looking at it close enough. So now it looks like the only thing similar between my springs and the coilover springs on the website is the color. Which gives me a lot more confidence in what the distributor was trying to tell me.

this is such a stupid thing to be confused over but I think i'm confused.

checking websites, it appears as if the supersports are blue, the sports are black and the race/track springs are red.

I have the red and if they are in fact the race springs i'd say go with those.

I have had several sets of aftermarket wheels...18 x 9.5 in the rear was the widest on 255's at +45...NO RUBBING EVER and i'm not really tucked in.

when i first installed them, i remember being overwhelmed by how well they improved the ride and handling....from just lowering springs! if its true and i was shipped and installed the race springs (i am a dumbass for not knowing) but lucked out because i wouldn't put on ANY other springs out there...unless stepping up to coilovers.

I went through the forum sponsor, VividRacing. Billy was great and answered all of my questions quickly and, despite my skepticism, accurately. He was also able to work with me through PM and over the phone which is pretty convenient.

But the SuperSport should be 52794-77

Yes, the box they came in says 52794-77... The color and number printed on the spring doesn't matter, these are the supersports. VividRacing called to confirm this with H&R and the pictures they're using on their website are just stock photos of springs, the colors differ from the actual part. I don't know why H&R does it this way, confusing as hell though.
