NAV +4 Installation Recently?
I am considering having this installed on my car. This is the Mercedes media interface add-on that gives you iPod connectivity, Bluetooth music streaming, and NAVI on the small LCD already in the car.
I'm a bit worried the dealership will scratch up my dash or something, but perhaps it's easy for them.
I searched for Nav+4 reviews, but didn't find anything.
Thanks!

Any specific questions, let me know...

You could do it yourself too if you find the WIS instructions and familiarise yourself with the task well in advance.

But, if you want all the other audio system features, the above won't be sufficient for you.

I got the unit at about one quarter of the US dealer price (Euro unit). I bought it only for the maps. This way everything is integrated to the car, the antenna is well positioned and the display is at instrument cluster level and easy to read. Nothing that attracts thieves.

Considering my choice, I did not pay few hundred in labour because I did it myself, including the cluster version coding. Excluding version coding, any MB enthusiast should be able to complete the task if properly prepared for it.
Thanks for the clarification on the audio features, I thought you were referring to some features that were missing from the Navi + 4 approach.

I am trying to find out how the update is performed and if it is disc base or usb flash drive base, then maybe I will start a sharing program...

Coding is only needed for the cluster. Since they are using Xentry for the W204, there is not much room for confusion because it does not allow much version coding without SCN coding. Actually after late 2009 or so, cars have to be SCN coded (an option code added to allow proper SCN code).
. Finally the last one managed getting all parts being installed, but not yet able to activate it. They told me "awaiting to receive coding from Germany for COMAND programming". Not sure what they meant, but being told to wait for at least a week to bring the car back once they receive info from Germany. Fingers crossed...

If it is late 2009 or 2010, it needs SCN coding and perhaps your workshop was not able to do it on-line or perhaps it is not allowed in the US. This would explain the need to wait.

Yes they don't have online service so they have to wait.

Overall a worthwhile addition to my car that meets my needs and is integrated with the rest of the MB controls. Any questions let me know.
The Nav +4 is formally the UMI?, did you have it installed at the dealer, what was the final cost, I'm curious, I'm in Canada also and the dealers around here are asking $1895.00 + install. From what I read above NickCats had some major issues with the install at his dealer. Did you have any issues, how long was the car in?

No problems with the installation, took about 5 hours.
The manual says Nav + 4, but it says UMI on the screen when it boots up with the lid open.
I understand that mine has the current software for Nav, the same as the factory installed one.
The manual is kind of confusing and you can download it on line but it is very intuitive when you actually use it. Let me know when you get it and I will tell you a couple of tricks I learned.
I have had it for almost 3 months now and I use the iPod and/or USB everyday and the Nav very often. I got a dock extender for $6 to extend the iPod connector so i can charge my iPhone and have it near me also.
I use my car for work and it is great for finding clients addresses instead of just using my iPhone or a paper map.
I am really glad I spent the money on the Nav + 4 as it is like the factory version (without the voice command of course), fully integrated into the MB system instead of an after market compromise.
The more I use the Nav the more I like it. Newer maps would be great but it has 99% of the destinations and routes I need as is. *Can even search for Tim Horton's!!
