09' C300 W204 spoiler help
Hey guys, I recently got a trunk and a roof spoiler for my C300, was wondering how you guys had it installed, the place I ordered from said its to be siliconed on? Has anyone done it that way? does it work well? Also, I'm looking to get a CF Front lip and CF mirror covers if you know of a place where i can get a good deal, please let me know. Thanks!

Adhesive can work, but adhesives are designed to specs for ambient temperatures, surface temperatures, surface preparation to remove any contaminants, pressure applied to the part and eveness across the area and duration of that pressure, etc. it is extremely unlikely that all of the variables can be properly controlled. And, even then, failures happen. As a prior OE employee, I recall how body side moldings would occasionally experience adhesive failures, even when applied properly, due to variations in the adhesive production.
An issue of urethane is that it is VERY secure. It can be removed later, if you wish, but it takes some work, and I would probably go back to a body/paint expert for that, but I don't ever intend to take off my roof or deck spoiler, both urethaned into place. Some folks here don't like the issue of the challenging removal, and somehow manage to rationalize the risk. I can't.

3M Double Sided RED Tape. Very sticky and has never come off. No need to urethane the thing to your car. Just have to prep it right. Use rubbing alcohol and whip clean the area its being placed.

Agreed. C63_Guy had his Vorsteiner decklid spoiler mounted with tape only and he sees 160+ regularly. But...it also depends on how well the spoiler was made and how flat it lays against it's mating surface. If the spoiler is warped, no tape will hold it down over time.

Whether or not a spoiler harpoons an unsuspecting driver or passenger in the following car involves more than legal liability issues. I don't think some folks are taking this issue seriously enough. Another thread on this forum from a year ago or more had a couple of people who started out with tape, and had it fail. Success with tape seems reliable.....until it isn't, and it may not fail "gently".

I did not trust myself to put these on because one wrong move and I can imagine that it would be hard to correct the alignment of these. Its not like you can put them on and take it back off if its not aligned correctly.
It took two technicians to put them on and a third technician eyeballing them to make absolutely sure that they were on correctly.

Yes, I have an aftermarket roof and trunk spoiler. The dealership put both of them on, but it did not involve any drilling.
