I have owned Porsches for the past 30 years, all I can say is my newly aquired C-300 makes me happier than any of the Porsches (with the exception of my hot rod 912 powered 550 Spyder replica on a fall day).
I've had several 911's and a Boxster but the C-300 does everything better and more comfortable. Wish I had come to the party sooner.

It's alright if you guys hang out here (as if I had any say-so in the matter ), but you won't find many people who know much about your cars (how much do you know about ours?).

Just don't make a mess!

I had a 911 (1976) in 84 for all of two weeks before it was stolen from my driveway. Loved it for the short time I had it. Replaced it with a SAAB 900 turbo. That car was a magnet for stereo thiefs and also very expensive to maintain I actually spent more for maintenance than the car costs. Lost 4 before I gave up and put a POS Audiovox in never had anouther stolen.

Meh... A bit over-rated... (J/K).

AZNOptics LEDs and HIDs on the other hand... are the only way you can feel like you're part of this forum, and the OP would be wise to get on that band wagon!

I guess the grass isn't greener on the other side

I always have been wanting a Porsche 911/Boxster (still do) so am surprised to hear your that you prefer the C300. I can understand the comfort will be difference though.

Welcome!

I too, was a die-hard Porsche owner, with a 356B, 914, 911, Boxster and a C4S. I recently converted over to the C 300 and an very happy with the car. All of my Porsches (except the '57 356) were convertibles, which I truly miss (live in So Cal beach city and just about every day is a top-down day). What I do not miss is the repair bills, the cost of of OEM and after market parts. I do not miss the ride of the Porsche. They ride like Freddie Flinstone mobiles. They are so stiff, that after about 200 miles of driving you really can't take the constant jiggling anymore. Porsche really dropped the ball on its 996 owners when it was discovered that an engine bearing (IMS) can default, blowing up the engine and costing $16K for a remanu engine at owners cost. After learning that Porsche was not willing to fess up to their design flaw, and money to them was more important that customer service and loyality, I soon soured on Porsche and will vow to never own another Porsche. My next "sport car" will be a SL 6.3 AMG...better ride and probably faster with the new automatic/paddle shift double clutch planned for the newer model.

Welcome!
The C300 is a much more refined car than the 2001 Boxster, they may have improved the Boxster in recent years but the engine design is problematic and I had to replace the air/oil separator twice the coolant recovery tank once, radiator fans on both sides, the rag top....you get the idea.
The C300 may not have a drop top and comes with a pair of spare doors and seats but I love it and will never go back.

You addressed the very things that I didn't spend the time listing. I know Porsche is gaining market share but they aren't doing it with long time Porsche owners. I went through pulled cylinder studs, chain tensioners, air boxes that blew up with the force of a stick of dynamite (at mid-night in the worst part of town) and this was childsplay compared to as mentioned above a $16k replacement engine. They don't sell engine parts for a W96 [sic] engine, you break something, replace the engine. Never again.

this is all really surprising to me. i don't know much about Posches but I thought they have been consistenty ranked as no. 1 for quality by J.D. Power for a while now

They may be ranked No. 1 (Obama was 3 years ago). I'm not a Marque basher, as I said I have owned Porsches for over 30 years from 356's through 911's. The only water cooled Porsche I owned was not up to the standard I had come to expect. The aircooled cars had their issues but you could buy the parts to remedy the problem and in most cases it wasn't a design issue it was a metalurgical problem (valve guides, cylinder studs) chain tensioners and CIS injection problems were fairly cheap to fix.
Even if only 2% of Boxster owners had problems with IMS seal leaks and bearing failures and 5% had issues with coolant recovery tanks air/oil separators, in warranty or out, if it is a design problem they should remove the parts from the shelf, redesign around the weakness and make them available to the owner. I cut apart the the recovery tank and measured the thickness at the point of failure and the balance of the tank and the difference was nearly .030. There is a fellow that is asking folks to send him their failed air/oil separator for analysis.
15 years ago the guy at the parts counter was helpful, pleasant, knowledgeable and ready to get you back on the road, today if your car is 10 years old or older you are on your own.
I will get my aircooled Porsche fix from my 550 (912-powered) Beck Spyder and enjoy my C300 Mercedes as dependable driver that is in most ways equal or superior to the Boxster I owned.
