Hello all, I'm currently at MB of Littleton getting by 40k service completed and raised the concern about the transmission fluid service and they advised that MB changed the service interval to 70k when they changed to the "blue" fluid.
They mentioned the issues of the TC not having a drain plug and in order to flush completely the transmission would pretty much have to be removed.
I raised my concerns and showed them the WIS PDFs from Johnands DIY thread. And they kindly brought me to the service bay and showed me that my C has eco start and doesn't have that access port as seen in this pdf. (Drain oil from torque converter)
The eco start module is right where that cover in the bell housing is.
Not sure what to do... I'd hate for my transmission to fail because I didn't do the preventative maintenance of getting the fluid flushed and changed.
If there is a way to drain the torque converter for models with Eco start I didn't have the resource to show them, after showing the WIS resources from the DIY thread.
Are Eco start models different or can someone provide the WIS PDFs for those procedures? Thank you in advance!
I have an E500 w211 2005 model m113 Engine with a 722 901 gearbox that has just malfunctioned with a TC and Valve Body failure. Will it be possible to replace this transmission with a 722 904 gearbox?

I would recharge the oil in two weeks time that way it is all flushed through.
Thank you for the links. Much appreciated. It appears all of them on the list are not fully synthetic lubricants including the one that touts itself as factory fill. Has anyone found a higher quality fully synthetic fluid that is within the same specs as those on the list?
Thanks
cheers! Mike
O
Gentlemen - I admit being a knuckle ragging American but Castrol Transmax is 100% synthetic and approved to work with both the 722.6 and 722.9 transmissions at $23.94 a Gallon - 6 bucks a quart.
I cannot find Castrol Transmax listed on the list of MB approved fluids.
I would like to see where it does say MB approved if so.
Castrol appears to claim that it is suitable, though not approved. People can use whatever they want, I will stick to Shell ATF 134 for my 722.964 transmission.
There are other compatible fluids. Redline D6 isn’t on the list either, but here it is, happy as can be in a 252k-mi transmission. That said, I do change it every 50-60k
Guys and gals. This is not intended to cause alarm but to respectfully suggest that you service your 722.9 transmission every 39K miles or 60K Km's as in ROW. We are seeing an increased number of TC et al failures as mileage increases & feel it prudent to inform you while we try to fully understand the failure mode. We should also state that forums such as these concentrate problems as many only post when they have a problem.
My 2010 C300 4matic Sport has a little over 157,000 miles on it. Everything looks original and there are no major services listing on the Carfax when I bought it so im assuming there has been no transmission work other than the 2 listed fluid/filter changes at an MB service center. It is the 722.964 transmission, pan has the small round dimples, white overflow tube.
Carfax shows transmission serviced at 40, 000 miles and then again at 80,000 miles. I bought it with around 120,000 miles and I finally replaced the fluid, filter and the pan about 2 months ago, around 156,000 miles. I replaced it with the same MB pan, white overflow tube, Shell atf134 fluid, and Filtran filter. From my research it looks like Fitran makes the MB branded filters, and the Filtran filter was cheaper. Since it was the first time i ever replaced the transmission fluid and filter in any car i ever owned I did not bother draining the TC, it took me long enough just dropping the pan. I was a little worried of messing up the TC, stripping the drain plug or something going wrong i didnt want to risk it. The condition of the old fluid and the filter was not bad at all, at least from my inspection of it. I even took the old filter apart to see inside it, wanting to see how it worked.
The old filter did not have any brand or marking on it, nothing. To me it looks like a very basic no-name aftermarket filter. That makes me think that the car dealer i bought it from had gone ahead and replaced the fluid and the filter at some point between 80,000 miles and when I bought it.
Since ive done the fluid once and see how easy it is I will most likely do it every 20,000 miles. I dont put many miles on the car so 20,000 miles is about every 3yrs for me.
I posted above about the Castrol since someone said it is "approved", which im not finding. People can use whatever they want, if it works for them great.
Heres the Filtran fiilter I used. According to the Filtran website it is the same patent number as the Mercedes branded filter.
Here is the no-name filter that was in the car.
Shell atf134 I used. This is on the list of MB approved fluids.
Looking through the 4matic diagrams i noticed a 'mesh filter" on the return line. Im not finding any other info about it, if this is something people replace. I posted it here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...placement.html
