should i do my oil change
So my baby is at about 5.3k miles at the moment. I'm wondering if I should do a early first oil change or wait for the appointed 10k.
on a side note does anyone know of a DIY thread for coils and subs? I did a quick search and nothing on coils and subs were all self contained subs.

I am going to the dealer tomorrow for the first oil change at 2450 miles, really low miles. I am not worried about the one-year service requirement at all, but worried about not having a dealer recorded service causing a voided warranty.
I will see what I would do after the first oil change.

Your warranty cannot be voided because you did not get service done at the dealer.
Google the Magnuson-Moss warranty act. Unless they can prove you caused it/something you did to the vehicle directly caused a problem, they cannot void your warranty or deny a claim. Additionally, they cannot void the entire warranty on a vehicle over something such as this.
Example: You replace your stock exhaust system, now they will not cover warranty issues for the exhaust. They can't deny you a broken power seat motor because of this... etc.

1st oil change done at dealer
Total out of pocket is $98. Although oil change only, they included lots of "visual" check and fluids under the hood.
Service advisor received an email from his manager saying if it is not a full service such as Service A, he can't reset the service reminder. I got an email before his recent email and was told they can reset it upon customer's request. I said I will reset it myself.

how did u get a discounted price? at only $90 i'll definitely do it. 8 quarts of oil alone is gonna $70 as it is + the oil filter and labor $90 is a steal for a dealer price

I called Smythe European. They wanted $120 for oil change and would not reset service reminder. Then I called Beshoff Motorcars. They wanted $89 but said they could reset service reminder if customer request it. I didn't ask for a discount.

Mine is also from Autobahn, sales person is Ernesto. He gave me 11.55% off MSRP, plus an additional $1000 off if I show him I have other Luxury cars (RX300 and QX4). No one else seemed to really want to match that, or they wanted but had no car I liked.

I'd do 1st filter and oil change early in 6 mos and/or 5K miles if you live in a very hot climate, as the factory fill is a relatively light 5W-30 oil.
Many MB Dealers are now using Mobil1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 oil, which had recently been limited to diesel engines only. Most suggest Mobil1 0W-40 instead, a better oil. ( Castrol 0W30 for cold climates ).
What model C300 do you have?

please click on User CP at the top left of page, just below the thread title. Then add the following to either Profile and/or Signature , selecting buttons on the left side of that page:
year, model, if it's a diesel, Sport or Lux, 4MATIC or RWD, Location (city & state), and non-US country if applicable.
This helps others respond to issues, like tires, part sales, etc. Thanx

Yes, that is the logic for replacing the fleece filter earlier than the standard interval MB mandates for filter & oil. But, if you are close to 1 year use, consider it your 1st official oil & filter change.

However, if I could go back in time, I'd probably change the oil or take it in for an "oil only" change about the 5k mile mark.
There will be a good bit of break in metals in there right now and there still will be for the first 2-3 oil changes, however, the most will be right now.
Therefore, if I could go back in time, I'd take the car in at about that mark for an oil only change (and still do my regular service when the maintenance indicator recommended it).
Now, if you are close to the regular service, like just a couple months, you might not want to do this now.
Also, if you're only going to be putting on 1-2k more miles before regular A service, that would be another reason to just wait.

A side question: MB service advisor said once a car goes from regular oil to synthetic, never switch back. I think he means switching back will cause damage to engines. However, lots of people say it is perfectly ok to switch back and forth, and there is a reason why it doesn't hurt anything but I don't remember.

However, the Mercedes cars of today require synthetic oil, so you won't be doing any switching. On a gasoline powered Mercedes, you must use 229.5 spec oil.

If the metal is in there, and not in suspension with the oil, by just changing the oil and not the filter, not sure what you accomplish, as the metals must be lying on the pan. Unless you are suggesting the metals are in suspension and too small to get caught by the fleece filter.
