Aftermarket wheels/tires and the flat tire warning?

I just ordered a set of aftermarket rims and tires for my 2012 C250 and was called by the wheel guy and asked what I wanted to do about the flat tire warning for the tires. He said the tires that came on the car have sensors in them that detect the flat tire and trip the warning system etc. Now, on my BMW the flat tire warning system just goes off when there is a difference in the rotation of the left and right side and therefore there is nothing inherently involved with the tire itself and the warning system. Is my Mercedes different from this in which the tires have some sort of sensor in them that gives off the warning?

The sensors are not in the tires, they are on the wheels. I'd actually be a bit wary of a wheel/tire seller who does not know that.

you could put the wheels on without the TPMS but the light would be on the entire time...
MSRP for them is 150...each...

The system is called TPMS(Tire Pressure Monitoring System). It is part of the valve stem. I have been told that on some vehicles that if you have a TPMS warning light that it does limit your top speed. I personally would hate a warning light on my dash. I would pay the extra money and get the TPMS sensor installed in my new wheels.

SO if I get tpms sensors put on the wheels beforetheory are shipped to me, do the sensors in the wheels automatically sync with the car's warning system or is there some special installation required?

That link is helpful, thank you. So there should be a way through the dashboard options to activate the TPMS sensors if I put the wheels on (sensors already installed) myself, right?

I live in Canada Also, and do not have the TPMS sensor. Uses the wheel speed sensor in the abs. I was so happy to find that out.
Buy the sensor if it doesn't work.
