In my situation it was the LCD screen that went in the motorised unit, I found it was cheaper to buy a second hand unit off eBay then change the LCD screen itself

Agree that the Monitor is done. A number of the early ones for 2008 and 2009 had a dismal failure record, and were replaced by newer versions that were more reliable.

I have the same problem with my wife's C350. Display goes up and it will close. However, the display is blink. All other controls work fine. The navigation radio and all other systems work. Any help would be great.

It's mostly likely the monitor is gone
You if have access to star it can confirm your doubts
Merc can perform a screen test
If all controls are working it would lead me to believe it is the monitor
Easy to replace can be found on eBay
Plug and play

Did you replace it yourself? If so where did you get it? What was the cost?

I would like to know what happened with this? Mine is doing the same thing! Why isn't this a recall? It seems to be a very common problem with this model.

LCD Display

Another thing I want to add here is when the screen pops up it flickers for 10 seconds then goes black. If you shine a flashlight on the screen then you can see it. I figured this out when I had to change the clock. Any one have the same result?

Command Center screen

My screen started flashing and every time I open the command center smoke comes out of the top left corner. Will this screen catch on fire?

Based on other posts, this seems to be a consistent problem. What are Mercedes and LG (screen manufacturer) doing about this problem?

I'm having the same issue...everything works fine but the screen. Without warning or any issues up until this point, it just all of a sudden went black. I have purchased a new LCD screen and swapped it out, still no luck. I even took the old screen to an electronics dealer and had them test it. Turns out it's not the screen. I purchased a new iPod intergation wire from the MB dealer because someone mentioned it might be that, still no luck. It was also suggested that maybe it's as simple as a software update-something the dealer could do for $300. I don't know but I'm at a loss of ideas here. Any help would be much appreciated.

Having same problem. Let me share my research on his issue.

Hi everybody. I have an identical issue. Looks like I went a but further in my investigation so I'll share my experience.

At what point screen went blank:

I was trying to remove already synchronized phone from the unit, and the unit froze on the "deleting the phone" screen and I could hear the unit was making the "I'm busy" noise. It froze to the extent that it wouldn't react to any buttons, turn/off even car's on/off. Eventually it drained the battery so that I couldn't even turn the car on. I had a batter boaster so I was able to run the car. After which I've noticed the screen was blank. Since then (till now) screen is blank.

Now, about my investigative steps:

1) Removed the fuse for the unit (using fuse diagram, also made sure it's he right fuse by checking if the unit is completely dead) put fuse back, problem persists.

2) To rule out bad screen, I had my original cracked screen (which was turning on, just cracked screen) and this was blank too.

3) After putting back the good (non-cracked) screen i removed the unit and checked the fuse (there's one fuse on the unit itself, behind it) - fuse was fine. Re-checked all cables, looked fine. Screen still dead.

4) I've noticed that even after above steps the unit kept my radio channel shortcuts which tells me that there's an internal battery in the unit.

Does anyone know how to "factory reset" this unit?

Unit model: MCS
Unit model No.: BB0541

The car is ML350 2006.

The car has the optional Tooki Bluetooth connection.

p.s. I originally posted on another Benz forum, in case if you're interested to check what users say on there, here's the link http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audio-telematics-forum/2524089-command-screen-went-black-sound-functions.html#post13464089.
