Hello Friends,

While I was driving, the needed of the fuel gauge started to drop from half tank of gas full to completely zero gas. When I had started up the car in the morning, the sensor was just fine. Then while I was driving, 10 mins after starting up the car, the needle just dropped.

Please help. Is the sensor gone bad or could it be something else?

You're getting terrible gas mileage, and then when you stop someone sneaks some fuel into the tank!

Just kidding. You should still be under warranty, no? If so take it in - no need in worrying. Just make sure you fill up. Most likely it is just a sensor.

Hold it!! Do not fill the tank if there is a chance a sensor must be replaced. If the W204 is like my old W203, the sensors are located in a well in the top of the tanks and fuel can be spilled when the sensor is removed with fuel at the full mark.

I have the same problem just recently with my 2009 C300. It happened in my other MB of the same year & model & before I could take it in, it fixed itself. I am hoping this one if going to do the same!

Agreed with RLE ,better do it with low gas as it will be a messy job regarding fuel tank

I wonder those with this problem what brand of gas you use?

In certain vehicles, Techron concentrate (fuel system cleaner not the fuel injector one that is more diluted) has shown to help restore fuel sensor operation.

If you drive for a while like this, be extremely careful not to run out of gas.

Changing the fuel sending Unit
Hi Ya'll,
I have a 2010 C300 V6 Sport, and the fuel gauge is acting very crazy, during the same day, marks fuel and empty
My question is, how can I change it? Do I need to place down the tank? Please help me out.

You need to get the car onto a Star & work out the issue. It can be anything from the 2 saddle tank sender units to the averaging module to the cluster to the rear SAM & it's programming to a simple below par battery.
