My 1st Benz....so many said "dont do it"

Recently some jackwaggon rear ended me at the RED light, and totaled my Lexus IS250 AWD. Despite the advice of so many saying "you will be sorry" because of the maintenance cost.I purchased a 2010 C300 AMG sport 4matic navi with 32k in milage for $26,330. Black on Black!!!! I thought it was a good deal. but I have 18mos and 18k worth of factory warranty left. What mechanical issues should I be on the look out for?

I heard the same thing when I purchased my C300. You have the same expenses that you would with any car. The MB service is expensive, but it is all relative. My oil changes are more, but I only do them once or twice a year. I haven't had any unexpected expenses with mine. You will love your MB.

Some of what you are hearing may be envy. My 2009 has had one repair in almost four years...a weak battery cell picked up by the dealer during maintenance and replaced under warranty. Normal maintenance is more expensive, but Capital Grille is more expensive than McDonalds. The issue is what you want to surround yourself with in this life.

About all you can do is change the fluids as necessary and replace the wear out items like rotors & pads. What's going to break is going to break or maybe not. It's a car. Most are good, some are exceptionally good and some utterly suck. Luck of the draw my freind. Time will tell.

I do my own maintenance, so it's not really all that expensive. I don't mind fixing something I can. It's interesting to troubleshoot & repair stuff and the money saved is a nice bonus. Certain stuff is beyond my ability, but things like brakes, filters, fluids, batteries, belts just aren't that hard with basis hand tools and a little patience.

Sorry about what happened but i guess the best comes out in the end. About mechanical issues, there isnt a lot that you'll see on the forum about the trouble that people have with this car, a lot including me say its a good car and wont give you much problem if you do all the maintaince.

MB service or any other dealer service will be expensive no matter what, especially if you dont have warrenty with them. As for oil change, doing it once a year or every 12,000miles is about the same price as doing it every 3000miles. I really dont know how good their old is to drive 12,000miles before getting old change.

All in all, MB cars is a very good car and hope you enjoy it.

I'm going to have to agree with most people and say that most of the criticism about the brand's reliability and cost of maintenance is hearsay.

I used to own a Hyundai. Maintenance on it was FAR from cheap. I think it was because the price of labor drives costs to similar levels. Especially, on dealer-prescribed maintenance.

When it comes to out of pocket expenses on repairs... that's another story. But just like I would never pay $400 for the latest phone, some people would never pay extra for something nice in a car. It really comes down to what YOU want.

Enjoy your new ride

Even though most of the attention has been on the Mercedes-Benz C class test results, have you seen the new IIHS test video (front overlap?) on the IS? The a-pillar snapped like a toothpick! Just sayin

really depends. Benz used to have some really big electrical issues when they were under Chrysler. Also many who did have issues were 1st year production owners. By the 3rd or 4th year into production most of the kinks get fixed. The C has been an all around reliable car since its 1st year production. Can't say the same about the family R-class tho.

I've had a head replaced under warranty around 46K. When I got the car back I increased my MPG by 3. Other than that.. no issues and I drive about 30,000 miles a year

It cost me more to complete the services on my 2003 Toyota Corolla. Including the Transmission service, I think I've spent around $1500 total and it is almost 5 years.

Please allow me to correct an incorrect fact as well as implications. MB was never "under" Chrysler. It was the reverse. Daimler bought the controlling interest in Chrysler. Whatever you may have thought of Chrysler, it was under the corporate terrorism of Daimler that the worst decisions were made and worst vehicles were directed into production. Content reductions were draconian and quality was poor. Whatever skills Daimler has at making MB cars did not translate into any ability to merge with or run another company...their culture did not allow for it. Finally, they raided Chrysler of much cash on hand and helped send it skidding on a path, into Cerberus (aptly named after the beast which guarded the gates of hell) toward it's eventual bankruptcy. Messrs Schremp, Zetsche, and Bernhardt milked Chrysler as a cash cow and either had no intentions or no ability to turn it into the successful company producing good products with essentially the same team which Sergio Marchionne now has. Compare a Daimler generation Chrysler 300 or Grand Cherokee with the current model...not just a "freshening" but two different level products from two different managed companies. Those cars, plus Dart and Durango have been winning awards...something which never could have happened in the company Daimler was driving into the ground.

During the Daimler regime, the only product connections were the creation of the Chrysler Crossfire from the SLK, the early plan to share the ML platform with the Grand Cherokee/Durango, although once "liberated by the allies", Chrysler did all their own development on the shared platform, a joint venture on an automatic transmission built in Indiana, and some shared design (but not part numbers) between some E Class and 300 suspension. Overall electrical architecture is a complex and long-lead item and not easily shared without total collaboration between developers of disparate vehicles at the early stages of concept kickoff.

Lots of great info guys.I feel much better about my decision...so much better that I bought a roof spoiler and a rear spoiler. carbon fiber mirrors and carbon rear diffuser next.I will sick with the 18" AMG wheels and stock suspension, the last thing is exhaust and intake...I've owned a subaru svx , audi A4 , LS400 , GS300, IS250 and now C300 4MATIC AMG and I love this car, I think I will keep this one.

I will post pictures soon.

No no... c300 4matic SPORT. As a new mb owner its important that you know the difference. Its not an amg unless it has an amg engine, suspension, etc.

My window sticker says AMG sport pkg. I know what a C63 is, but the pkg includes wheels breaks, suspension, appearance....Is this a factory installed fake?

Unless your brakes are this big. They're aren't amg.

http://media.photobucket.com/image/r...30/0002-20.jpg

What we have is sport suspension. They call it an amg sport package because the designs fall from the c63. Ergo plug and play diffusers. If you really want to go around calling your call an AMG be my guest. Its the same as calling a 335i an M or a IS250 an F.

?? This is the internet. Don't instill a tone into my words and then take it the wrong way. I'm simply telling you the c300 is by NO MEANS an AMG. You have a valid point, the only ones I know of being the F-Sport and M-sport. However, Lexus fabricated a whole new bumper for their line as well as did BMW. There has only been three nodes in the MB line up

Luxury
Sport
AMG

I'm merely telling you this as IT IS a big deal among AMG owners. Trying to keep you from future flames but you can do whatever you want as this hardly affects me. Welcome to the forum!

It's difficult to determine "tone" when reading. I think being corrected by someone via internet (or in general) can lead to a misinterpreted level of condescension. I don't think xzotik1 meant to insult you since we all have different opinions.

No expensieve costs so far, also the service costs are not that high.

This is my 3th Benz in about 6 years , and the costs are not much more than other brands.

My wife is more expensive
