Getting the updated COMAND colors on 2012 C300
We have a 2012 C300 with the nav package.
I set today in 2013 and noticed the colors now look much better on both the COMAND screen as well as the round cluster screen.
Is there anyway to get 2012 updated?
Has anyone done it?

2013 changed from beige and black to red and silver.
After having a 2013 for a day - I was glad to be back in my 2012. The beige doesn't wash out as much in sunlight as the silver.

From what I've read on other threads about this, its possible to update. The trouble is a) some dealers don't know how and b) most won't do it without a 'legit' reason to do so. You have to go in complaining about problems with bluetooth or something and sometimes you'll get a flash. If you don't have the boost option under AUX, you might try saying your MP3 player volume is low and heard there was an update to fix. Make sure they know you're not looking for a map update. That's apparently what most dealers think you're asking for.

Eh, the newer colors certainly look more appealing, but they're not nearly as functional. Everything has more of a washed out look, and is harder to see in bright light as someone mentioned. For that reason I don't think it's worth bothering.

European maps now on v10 March 2014. Apparently there are three versions of ntg4.5 with 1 & 2 versions using the same hardware so possibly upgradeable with flashing whereas v3 uses different hardware and is known as ntg4.7 so not much you can do there without swapping the head unit. The v3 is the only one to give full support via PAN not DUN for phones.

I'll post what happened to me. I bought a 2012 C300 Sport because the price was nice. It had a few things missing that I wanted but figure that was ok.
After I had the car for a bit I noticed the HD Radio sounded like total ****. Like really bad. No bid deal, you can turn it off through command. Did that but found that the HD Radio re-enabled itself when I switched stations and then back to the original station.
So I researched a bit and took it to the dealer for a command update. The command update fixed the radio issue and it changed the color to black/silver instead of black/yellow.
Too bad I test drove the 2013 with the bigger engine for fun. Two weeks later I got a check engine light (throttle frozen open due to MN winter). While it was in service I negotiated and bumped myself up to a 2013 (much much happier than the 2012: quicker, more toys, etc).
So my command update was moot but it did fix that crappy color for me.

You need a firmware update. If you had your firmware updated after the 2013's came out you should have more options. Also the ability to enable command online, etc.

Damn. Can they do firmware updates outside of warranty? and if so how much is it going to set me back? I'm at 51k miles now.

Just go to the dealer and ask them to update the firmware. If needed, make up some problem with the command system. For a 2012, not remembering the HD radio station is set to normal radio when you change station is one reason that should work. If you're out of warranty you may have to pay for whatever hours are involved. Then you'll need to dig through the engineering menu to find whatever settings you want to change.
