How to Remove Shark Fin Antenna

Hey guys. Tried searching, but couldn't get a solid answer. Going to wrap my roof and wanted to know if someone could please help me figure out how to take the shark fin antenna off the roof? Not sure if it just pops off or if I've got to go in from under the car somehow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

i figured out how to reach the screw underneath, but someone told me that i can't disconnect the actual shark fin from there since there is wiring attached to it. this will help allow me to wrap the roof correctly, but i also wanted to paint it black to match the roof so that will become a little more difficult.

can anyone confirm that it's not possible to detach the antenna without taking the roof liner out from the inside of the car?

You can pull it off without accessing it from the inside but you will brake it and need to replace it, and when mounting you need to take down the head liner anyways.

So best way is to take down the rear head liner where lights at , and unscrew it from there.
What about wires running to antenna? Are they pl7g n play ones.
Thank you for your input!!

Depends on the options on your car, If you dont have GPS, comfort telephony or Satellite radio then you dont have any wires at all, but if you do they are easily disconnected just under the shark fin.

My shark fin seal was damaged (long story). The dealer told the entire headliner has to come down and may not be as good as original when put back up. Is it possible to access from the read dome light?

Thanks,

Adam

I think you just have to remove the rear part of the headliner not the whole thing. Unscrew a bolt n there you go...

The story is I was having my roof wrapped in Vinyl. The didnt open my sunroof and cut the seal on the sunroof. It's at Mercedes now gettign fixed. Unbelievable. Looks like they cut the rear fin seal too. I need to be clear on this because MB says the whole thing needs to be dropped.

I have not looked at it myself but I remember a friend of mine explained he could fix the antenna from the rear dome light hole but it was not easy. Or was it so that the screw had to come off first before the old part could be removed and the new part can be just pressed in place. If you already have the new antenna, you can see if it can be inserted with the fixing screw in place and tightened. The point anyway is that the headliner was not removed.

Thanks. It looks like the seal should be fine. I had the dealer check it and they do not recommend replacement. 5 hour job is the quote and they remove the headliner. They have done a few in the past and this is their process. But I am leaving it.

Thanks!

Has anyone figured out how to remove the shark fin without dropping the entire headliner?

Vinyl shop recommends taking them off to wrap the roof.

I had my roof wrapped (non sunroof) they just tucked the wrap under the rubber seal around the fin and left a small slit at the back, doesn't really bother me. But yes, won't be perfect unless you can get it off. Too much hassle for me.

I already had one failed wrap attempt, so am going to another shop and they recommend removing them. I don't want a half assed job done on a brand new car. Next step would be to have the roof painted, which also requires removing it so needs to come off somehow

Don Nguyen from this forum did the same on mine. I can't tell the difference. But my silver antenna is sometime an eye sore. I wanted to remove and plasti dip it but yea, seems too much of a hassle to remove so I just left it the way it is.

Damn, guess I'll let the shop know and see how they want to approach it.

Wonder if there's anything special about the wiring I could cut it and just solder it back together afterwards.
