2011 w204 rain sensor
Recently I brought my new to me 2011 w204 4matic sport in for a waranty issue, i thought...
I noticed that my automatic windshield wipers that run off the rain sensor on the windshield behind the rear view mirror were not working. After a few days of diagnosis, the techs at MB determined that my car did not even have the rain sensor option... News to me since the salesman explained how to use them during my test drive of the Certified pre-owned. Vehicle has, or I thought it had, every option... the mulitmedia package, bi-xenon package and the AMG wheel and tire package for the memory drivers seat and rear back up camera... The sales man said the only options it did not have was the memory drivers seat, automatic lowering side mirrors and the rear back up camera.
So, my question is, what is the sensor looking peice that is located on the front middle of my windshield, directly in front of my rear view mirror if it is not for the windshield wipers? And, what can I do about this?

Rain sensor is part of P1 package.
I test it this way: turn the wiper switch to the first or second notch, drop some water in the sensor area and wiper should start to wipe a few times.

Well based on C300CA's post, I don't think that I have the P1 package... The only option that I have out of that list is the SIRUS Satellite Radio. But my windshild has the small blue/purpleish box infront of the rear view mirror which lead me to believe that it had the rain sensor.

Thank you vic viper, looks like I got one of the rare MB without the damn rain sensor... That sucks! I posted another thread about my transmission being a 6 or 7 speed. According to your post, mine has the 7 speed trans however I only have 6 forward gears while in "manual" mode... Is that normal?

You had the rain sensor installed on your car last monday? If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you and did you get it done through Mercedes?

You can have it installed if your car has the correct harness fitted ~ it requires calibration. The latest rain sensors are set into the screen & are more reliable but that means a screen change.

Weird equipment on that car. MM and Bi-X but no P1. The packages were shuffled after 2009. In 2008-2009 it was hard to find one without P1 in my area. My '11 has P1 but no Bi-X and no MM.

Yes it's strange - It has things like LINGUATRONIC but no rain sensor. Very strange. It must have been ordered that way. SA will build anything you want. It's the US that chooses to have packages.

Mercedes production lines each have a variety of wiring harnesses, and many lines cannot install certain accessories, hence no provision is made for some items. The rain sensor is one, for my particular VIN which is Eurospec, the iPod Integration Kit is installed, but the UMI/UMIPlus cannot be installed.

If is have ligth sensor it has wiring to fit rain sensor
But is have to be programed on star computer
Cost off rain sensor was 58 Euro and i installd it self takes max 10 minuets+program
