Quad Exhaust too loud

Hey I have a c300 and I just got a x-pipe installed and tips added too it but when I had it done the installer never told me that it would be so loud on just regular driving. I think it sounds good when I floor my car and and go really fast but I don't like it when it sounds really loud when I drive normally. It basically sounds like a old school honda with a muffler thats too big for it. So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make it a bit quitter and the cheapest way available so it wont sound like a honda on a regular drive but when I pin it at a red light then you can hear the x-pipe.

You can't mean replacing just the resonator with an x-pipe and replacing the tips is too loud. There's barely any difference under 3K RPMs. Did you replace the mufflers, too?

Also, a muffler that's too big would mean a quiet car. And if all you did was replace the resonator, than just put it back on.

Yea, you need to be more specific on what you replaced. If it's just an X-pipe and tips there really shouldn't be in increase in DB levels during regular driving. The X-pipe mainly evens out the exhaust flow on V-style engines and smooths it out, if anything your car should sound deeper. If you did a muffler delete then re-add them, possibly with magnaflow units. If you didn't and really all you did was x-pipe and tips then you may need to add aftermarket resonators in.

Not the same car... or engine but:

I had my resonators and 2ndary cats removed a while ago... then I put in an xpipe into quad exhaust (2 straight pipes out of the back of the x, each leading to 2 amg tips (hence quad). It was vicious sounding but too loud for regular driving. What I ended up doing was installing two aftermarket resonators (magnaflow magnapacks), AFTER the x, and before the tips obviously. And I absolutely love it

did u do a muffler delete? If you did straight pipes and x-pipe (which it sounds like) then yes it will be loud. I did an x-pipe and magnaflow mufflers and it sounds perfect in my opinion...i had muffler delete with my 335 and it was way too loud

But the guy said that there isnt enough space with the quad tips to have the muffler there so do you think a resonator would work instead?

Many members on this forum, as well as myself, have their quad tips welded directly to the muffler.

Then the guy is an idiot and should not be touching your car. Not too sound harsh but take it back and make them do it for free. Your car would sound terrible....

Well, if he got the AMG tips that have a Y-pipe instead of an h-pipe, I can see how the guy said it wouldn't fit.

Well I used a amg diffuser and just got another set of stock tips so I assumed it would fit so idk why he said it wouldn't fit but I'm gonna take it back and if he says it cant work then I may just get him to change it back to how it was stock.

If you got the right tips that are not "Y" shaped it would have worked perfectly with your stock mufflers. Go get the mufflers put back on, X pipe, and the quad tips and you will like it. No harm done really .

post a picture of the set up...you can always add a muffler that is aftermarket and have him weld in your quad tips to them.

To perform work above what was requested without getting consent is a big thumbs-down IMO.
Let's hope the guy still HAS your mufflers!!!

I still have the mufflers I didn't leave them with the guy but I went to get a second opinion today and the person said that the mufflers are just too big to have the quad tips he said my best option is to either turn it back to how it was stock or add a resonator but I'm worried that with adding a resonator it would still be too loud so do you guys think I should just get a smaller muffler?

I think you should get the proper tips you need with stock mufflers. Tons of people on here have it done and I will be soon. Tips should look like this:

Your muffler guy is just flat out wrong. There's plenty of empirical evidence on the forums here to prove otherwise. It's a simply Y split pipe from the OEM muffler. And yeah, as others have said, put that muffler back on if it's too loud for you.

I modded wife's c250 exhaust to AMG Quad tips. Since we both hate to drive noisy cars, I installed a Y pipe after the resonator and Magnaflow 11365 muffler on each side. Exhaust sound is a little louder than the stock but have to live with it.
If I have to do it again, I will get original C300 Muffler. You don't have to remove the original Muffler to install AMG Quad tips. Provided you have the h type. The original C250 muffler have two pipes coming out. No way to mount the AMG Quad tips into.
