Advice needed: All season or grand touring tires for fourmatic?
I will be needing new tires for my c300 sport fourmatic soon. I am more interested in a smooth, quiet ride and long tread life than anything else. Living in N.J. we get 5 or six snowstorms over 6 inches every winter. Will grand touring tires be a lot worse in the snow then all seasons?

I made it through an unusually bad winter last year with tires that have 27k miles on them and actually made it through the snow fairly easily. So what I'm actually trying to do is get a softer, smoother ride and was led to believe grand touring tires would achieve that over all-seasons. So I'm wondering if all seasons and grand touring give similar performance in snow.

Grand touring is more of a performance level than all season vs summer. Typically a grand touring tire will be all season, but its a softer ride quality prioritized type of tire. As others have said, you are far better off buying winter tires if you live somewhere where it regularly gets snow. Even without snow a dedicated winter tire will have better traction below about 45 degrees than an all season due to the material not getting hard in colder temperatures.

+100, no sub for winter tires.
I like Conti DWS for summer and will help in the first light snow of the season if you didn't change to winters in time. but then run dedicated winter setup.
If you have no traction (which winter tires are better at in cold temp and snow weather), no amount of wheel drive, 4 or 16 will help you to stop if you slam on those brakes or have to swerve.
you'll hear people argue that with AWD one tire or two will always have grip in real world driving, or you can slow down better using engine braking, or you can turn easier yata yata yata.... everyone has their own way of driving and their opinions and its all BS in my opinion because of a simple fact is that grip between tires and the road what matters the most. Having AWD is a big bonus but not the solution.
