I had to mount my license plate too with the factory mount. Prior owner already drilled the holes, the underside kits don't work on our bumpers, and the fine is $210 which is more than a speeding ticket for some reason

At least in Oregon, the front plate must be mounted on the front bumper, no exceptions. I was pulled over for doing otherwise several years ago

Even when mounted like this?

Personally I find it quite annoying seeing license plates being mounted in front of the bumper. From a design perspective, bumpers need to be the ones doing the bumping, not license plates.

No that would be fine. It's when people put the plate on their dashboard/windshield that they get in trouble

I've always chopped it down and stuffed it against the air dam grille but it doesn't fix the holes in my bumper so oh well.

Perfect example of what's left over in that thread. Couple of painted clips and a nice outline of where the plastic mount rubbed against the paint. Least the factory mount looks legit unlike many cars today that are basically just screwed straight to the bumper. I am too ****, would have to respray bumper post filling the holes.
