Extended Warranty options?

Extended Warranty options?
I have a 2012 Mercedes C300 on hold at a Ford Dealership and am going tomorrow for the final decision. I had asked about extended warranties as the factory warranty expires in 8 months (car only has 37k). I was told I could take advantage of Fords extended warranties. The lowest priced one being $3300 for a 72 month warranty (from title date of 5/2012). This covers everything except buttons, brake pads, clutch, and a few other mis-match items.
On a car tagged at $24k with low mileage is this something to even consider? Are there third party options that might better price coverage?

The warranty is only for 973 days since it starts from the date of invoice, which is about 2 ¾ years for $3300. A Mercedes extended warranty for two years unlimited mileage is about $1968. There are several dealer on this site that offer extended warranty do a search and connect one of them. I put the quoted prices I received and a link so you could see for yourself. Hope this helps.

I looked into extended coverage a couple years back and Costco had the best offer by a large margin. It would be well worth the membership if you're not already a member.
Didn't buy any coverage but have been pretty lucky since...now I need to find some wood to knock on...

I was told I could purchase the Ford extended coverage option when the factory warranty expires but can only imagine the price will further increase.

Not sure where you got that information. We bought our C300 when it was a year old from a wholesaler. We just bought the extended MB warranty from MB of Austin, no problem. It's in force, I checked with our local dealer.

Same, I just got a 2 year/25k mile extension to the original 4 year/50k from Jason Mayes @ JMayes@iamilwaukee.com for probably close to 1/2 the cost as a local dealership 3rd party warranty. Local dealership usually deny being able to offer you the original extension cause they make more selling 3rd parties.

Yes. You can purchase the ELW from any Benz dealer in the country, and they do not need to see you or the car. There are several threads with recommended salespeople in the Warranty section of this website.

At the prices for a used C300, you may be better off shopping longer and finding one CPO at a good price at a MB dealer. They are pretty much commodities and there's no reason to get all silly in love with a particula car at a Ford dealer. Unless they're selling it cheap, in which case you have to a) figure out why and b) accept the compromises.
Also, I found that the MB warranty extensions priced about the same regardless of the car involved, be it a 30k CLA250 or a $185k S63 or SL63.
So while the extended warranty may be a no brainer on a $100k+ AMG with unobtanium parts and prices... maybe for a CLA, GLA, or C you may be better off thinking of the car as expendable?
I've had pretty good luck getting 3 year old off lease Fords and Hondas to make it just about exactly to the 60th and final payment (and 110k miles) before spewing guts down the highway, and that's like 3 or 4 years past any factory warranty.
So I would say... EITHER forego the warranty entirely... OR go find a CPO at a MB dealer.

The MB warranty is ideal for many reasons:
- Accepted at all MB dealerships nationwide
- Always OE MB parts and technicians working on your car
- No deductible
- No waiting for approval unless very expensive repairs
I should mentioned there are also excellent aftermarket warranties ($0 deductible, widely accepted, good coverage), but for those premium plans you often pay "premium" pricing which exceeds the ELW from MB.

In order to get a CPO warranty, it must be from a Mercedes dealer. You can then buy up to a 3 year unlimited warranty.
If you buy the car from a Ford dealer, you can still buy the Mercedes extended warranty from any dealer in the country, check out the extended warranty threads. Some dealers will sell their warranty for just $100 over cost. The MB warranty is considered one of the best as it doesn't have a deductible and they don't have a rep of denying claims or going out of business like some 3rd party warranty companies. So for the MB extended warranty I believe you can buy a 7 year 75k warranty or 7 year 100k. The warranty is also a little cheaper if you buy it in the first 30 days of ownership. You can buy it as long as the original warranty has not run out. And I believe pricing does vary depending on model like AMG models are more.

Most dealerships say the cost is $4750 for "84mos/100k" Option.

I purchased my "84mos/100k miles" from Mercedes-Benz of Athens (in Georgia)
I first emailed and then called John Ledford (jledford@mercedesbenzofathens.com)
I paid $4000, for the "84mos/100k miles" ELW
I hope this helps others.
