Unhappy Newbee with C300 2008 headlight H1Ds problem

Hi everyone,

I have a C300 2008.

I had the passenger headlight low beam that went off lately. i found out I have H1Ds ordered a pair.
Just got them & installed a new bulb, when i started the engine the error message has disapeared but still NO light it's not working! I tried the new one on the left (driver) side and it works. Installed the driver side bulb & it's also not working in the passenger side.

I read somewhere that the car computer shuts the power off when it detects a failed bulb. Can it be the case? And how can I recycle the power to get it back? Or can it be the ballast? Where is it? How to check it? I have to mention that I found out (silly me ) that in the mean time I left the cover out it stayed open for a couple of weeks so water & moisture may have entered in the light port. The failed light was out during this time.

If someone can help me to find out exactly the problem it would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot...

I had a hard time following that. Did one bulb not work on both sides? If that is the case it's the bulb. The inexpensive sets on ebay and amazon can be hit or miss.

Hi

passenger side headlight stopped working couple of weeks ago.
i ordered a new pair of H1Ds, got them = they are brand new in box not installed yet.

I installed one (new) in the right (passenger) side.
the error message disapeared but still NO light it's not working! I tried this same new bulb (removed it from right side) on the left (driver) side and it does works. Also installed the old driver side bulb (it was still working) & it's also not working in the passenger side.
so two tested & working bulbs installed on the passenger side but no light...

is it the computer that has disabled the light to work? how to restart it?
Is it ballast that is gone bad? how to test it? where is it?

Also finally some dust & moisture may have entered the headlight enclosure since i forgot to put back the cover for some weeks...can it be a reason?

Hope this clarify the situation

sorry about the confusion english is not my main langage.

thanks a lot for your kind help

regards,

AK

It definitely sounds like an electrical issue going on. But it is interesting the warning went out. Unfortunately I don't have much experience to offer as far as that goes.

You're English is much better than my French.

My 08C350 had bi-xenon also. The bulbs are D1S, which I replaced them with NO PROBEMS. I do not know for sure the H1Ds are the right bulbs ?.

It's the same thing. HID = High Intensity Discharge, which on the W204 is a D1S.

Free to try, disconnect the battery ground in the engine bay, wait 5 minutes and reconnect. That will reboot your LCM.

Report back if it works for other future readers of this thread.

HI
(sorry first two responses did not work I was logged out without knowing and when i submitted (quick reply) it did not work. GRRR!!! hopefully this full post will work :-))
First thanks to everyone who responded & tried to help. here is where I am.

Bulb: yes it is a D1S HID.

Reset the ECU: thanks CVX I disconnected - reconnected the battery for a good 15-20 min and problem still there. Error message reappeared.

my thoughts:
- fuse: is there any headlight fuse? I pulled the fuse diagram (https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...am-layout.html) and don't see any headlamp fuse?!
- Cable/ballast assembly: before ordering another is there any way to verify the ballast? Is it a big job to replace? Also I checked to order one and I am asked if I have curving lights? Franckly I don't think but how can I check that? Is this REALLY a possible option on a genuine 2008 C300?

thanks again

AK

Power cycle the vehicle (turn engine on and off) to reset the front SAM.

in pursue og the light

Hi,

So anybody here can help me to:
- verify/confirm that it's my ballast that is not working
- any clue on how to find out what ballast model I should have - apparently not the same if curving lights...

Thanks in advance...
