The sweet smell in anti freeze in the exhaust smoke and the coffee look sounds like oil foam in the coolant....just got to trace where its coming from. Head gasket is the obvious place to look..... then oil cooler. Do a leak down test on the cylinders and listen for bubbling then test that the coolant circuit is holding pressure with one of the testers that screws on top of the coolant header tank. Best of luck with it.

Coffee = oil in coolant

Many ways this can happen.

Quit guessing. Spend $37 for a coolant leak test kit. This will tell you immediately if you have a blown gasket or cracked head.

Is the turbo coolant cooled on these cars? If so, there’s another vector.

Why? It that a common problem? The combustion leak detector will tell with certainty if it's a head gasket or crack in the block. For $40 it's well worth knowing.

Hi,
In my experience where you have oil pressure at say 50 psi inside a oil to water heat exchanger and the water is at say 13 psi and the cooler matrix or o-ring seals between the two fail or leak what happens is oil enters the cooling system when the engine is running this turning the coolant oily and frothy at the radiator cap.

What also happens is when the car is turned off the oil pressure goes to 0 but the water is still at 13 psi for 1/2 hour or so, this is enough to slowly leak small amount of water in to the oil side of the cooler, since it is only small amount of water the heat from restarting and driving the engine is enough to evaporate the water thus no colour change in the oil or water at draining of the engine sump.

There are other possibilities I hear you say..
Okay lets look at the TK tester which is an excellent choice by the way, detects hydrocarbons in the cooing system great but hydro carbons(exhaust gas)/ blown head gasket will not in put raw oil in the cooling system.

Cracked head..
Cracked between the cooling system and internal camshaft area, this will let water in to the oil system - loosing water- small amount will not be see due evaporation, when bad enough the oil will turn white.
Cracked between combustion chamber and water jacket , this will let hydrocarbons in to the cooling system and possibly start up missing on one cylinder -- no oil in to cooling system.

You just have to understand where in the engine pressurised oil and water are close by and the oil cooler is the only place.

Dave
