Temperature gauge drop while engine is hot on the motorway..

Hey guys I have been having a problem with my cooling system. The problem is my temperature gauge keeps dropping down to 40°c when it should be 90° or 85° even while engine is at full operating temperature 🌡 I have change the Thermostat and sensor and I am still having the same issue.. Any suggestions?

The fan actuation ratio keeps going up to 89 % when the temperature gauge drops..

The fan ratio

Its showing 75°c on the scan tool but 80° on the dash..

I have cleared the code and changed the coolant temperature sensor along with the Thermostat already and still have same issues..

Check your cap. Seal may be bad and bleeding-off pressure.
Also, consider carrying a temp gun/gauge and pulling-off to verify what is shown on dash is what the fluid is actually running at.

You could be right but if so wouldn't I be losing coolant? And I am not losing any coolant that's the funny part of it 🤷🏾‍♂️ I have now changed 2 thermostat and made sure to line them up correctly in the slot, I even check the ohms on the sensor to make sure they were working properly..thus one puzzles me a bit.

No, you wouldn't lose coolant from a bad cap... just pressure. A cooling system needs to be closed/pressurized to perform correctly. Being in Iowa, if you don't have heat in winter, the first thing you check is the radiator cap.

I did check the cap and it's holding pressure, I have changed the antifreeze and bleed the system of any air and its now staying up to 80° but fluctuating up and down between 80°c and 85°c .. my cap is good and holding and the car heat up fine its just behaving that way when I am on the motorway or travelling long distance and when it goes down the fan runs nonstop so I have to pull over in order not to over run the fan I don't want it burning up..

$100 coolant thermostat replacement

+++ I read the whole thread...
early post has new sensor + Tstat still keeps the fan running because AC is active!!

Sensor code is when it gets disconnected or a bad sensor GND circuit.

You seem to have the answer here, but I don't understand exactly what you mean. I changed my thermostat and coolant temp sensor, but the temp still radomly drops to zero

you need to do a bit more troubleshooting yo know what to fix.
Read the temp sensor data... if it has a bad circuit check it out eith voltmeter.... perhaps ECU is being flooded with engine oil ??
