Did you replace the gas cap with a Genuine Mercedes gas cap?
I tested an aftermarket cap that I got through Amazon Vine and after about a week, I got a CEL and code for the evap system. Put the "old" cap back on and the error never returned.

The last time I saw this, the evaporative canister had a crack in it. But there are a couple of valves in the system that can fail, too. Scanning with an MB dedicated device as suggested is a necessary step.
Since the check engine light is on and the gas light is blinking I would say scan the car with a Mercedes specific obd scanner.
Probably an issue with the evap system.

Also I noticed gas smell around the gas cap. I thought it was the evaporation canister that was why I had it checked for visible cracks but was intact.

P0455 = big leak. If you have local emissions stations, have them test your cap even though it’s new. Don’t test the car, because they’re required by law to flag it if it fails. If okay, either the purge valve is bad, there’s a hole/crack in the filler neck, the tank is leaking at the neck, or maybe the fuel pump cap, the crossover tube cap (less likely).

The another time after getting gas a warning on the dash came on saying to check the gas cap, but it went away pretty quick and I dont think the check engine light ever came on from it.
