Battery registation w/ iCarsoft MB3.0
I have the iCarsoft MB3.0 scanner. After installing a new battery, I tried to "register" it with the scanner. The registration function was unavailable for use with my vehicle. I updated the scanner software, however, still no registration functionality. Am I doing something wrong that prohibits me from using this function?
If it is not possible with this scanner, can anyone recommend a scanner app that works with an ELM bluetooth OBD II module, that will provide the battery registration function?

Mercedes battery registration is the process of informing the car's computer (ECU/SAM module) via a diagnostic tool that a new battery has been installed. This updates charging parameters to prevent overcharging and premature failure of the new battery. Registration is generally requiredy in newer models
Key Details on Battery Registration:
- Why It's Needed: The charging system treats older batteries differently to maintain charge. Without registration, the car may overcharge the new battery, reducing its lifespan.
- What it Involves: It tells the Battery Management System (BMS) to reset electrical charge throughput to zero.
- Tools Required: Professional tools like
, Autel, orcan be used to perform this function through the OBD2 port.
- Where to Get it Done: Dealerships or independent specialists familiar with Mercedes systems. Some retailers like Batteries Plus offer this service, according to one user on their blog.
- If Not Registered: You may experience start-stop system issues, reduced electronic features (e.g., heated seats), and potential dashboard warnings

Your charger is simply charging the battery. You set the charger to agm battery so the charger knows what charging cycle to use. You can still screw up charging a battery with your charger, example trying to charge a small lawn mower 12v 3ah agm battery. I just did it.

W206 definitely has it as do H/X247, although reset on the 247s is a simple one step task.

Your battery charger is just charging up the battery.
I have a Noco Genius 5 charger. My small 12v 3ah lawn mower battery was dead so I hooked up the charger then an hour later i started smelling rotten eggs and the battery was screaming hot. Pretty sure I fried it. The charger probably didnt know it was only a 3ah battery.
