So I've had the C300 for a total of 72 hours and the check engine light came on. Nothing seems unusual with the car. I'm coming from a V6 so the shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear seem a little rough but other than that everything feels perfectly normal. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Anybody have this issue with the new C300?
Check the gas cap. Unfortunately the check engine light can be a myriad of things, its specific for exactly nothing. If the gas cap doesn't fix it after a day or so a trip to the dealer is in order. When its not the gas cap other common issues are a bad spark plug or a faulty fuel injector. From there its a bunch of other things that affect the emission control system.

With a modern car I recommend that everone carry an OBDII scanner in the glove box. You can buy an expensive one but for Mr Average a $50 unit from Harbor Freight & the likes is all you need to put your mind at rest or alert you to a major problem. Just make sure you buy one suitable for European vehicles & that it tells you what the code means. It's a pain looking up codes.
Thanks for all the replies.. that seems like a handy gadget to have. It was something minor (phew!). Apparently it kept throwing out the code that the gas cap was having an issue. They cleared the code and fixed an issue with the gas cap.. In and out in an hour. Now off to enjoy it!!!
Cool finds Glyn and C4004matic, I had never thought of getting one. Are the pin connectors universal? Can you 'clear' codes as the original poster had after seeing what it was with these?
I ordered a Bluetooth OBD (about $13) and downloaded the Torque app (Android...about $15) and it seems to work pretty well. Even the Service Manager was impressed.
