No traffic info on COMAND online navigation

Anyone got any ideas as to why the traffic on dynamic routing seems to have disappeared over the weekend?

I no longer have the little yellow / red dots showing traffic, the arrival time isn't updated to take account of traffic and I have no idea how to get it back - most of the options, including display traffic symbols, are greyed out.

I've only had the car one week.

When I look at subscription information it says I have Tom Tom Live until December 2017

I am in the UK and have the same issue. It failed once and the garage updated the firmware. That lasted a month and the same problem has re-occurred. This time everything they have tried has failed and it is now with Mercedes Benz Technical Support for a solution.

Looks like it is a wider issue. Not very good at all.

How long has it been with Mercedes Tech Support?

What would you suggest I do? Raise it with dealer and advise them I'm aware of other people with same issue?

Have you been offered any compensation? Live traffic was a big part of my decision to upgrade to comand.

It was with the dealer on Tuesday when it was reported to Technical Support.

I would report the fault to the dealer and let them try and fix it. See where it goes from there.

Completely agree that it is key bit of Sat Nav functionality. Without it of little use to me on the daily commute. Thank goodness for Google Maps. Hopefully Android for the car makes an appearance sooner rather than later and I can ignore the Sat Nav. Won't be soon though.

Good luck.

@davidmcr have you had this fixed yet?

So my vehicle went to the dealer and they updated the software. Traffic lasted for 24 hours before mysteriously disappearing whilst sat in an unavoidable queue coming out of a shopping centre.

I phoned the dealer and arranged for it to go back in, but the traffic reappeared just as mysteriously before it went back and has worked for a week since.

Watch this space I suppose.

Hi there,

I have been told they are going to replace a part after discussion with Mercedes Technical Support. That is due around the 21st Jan, however, like you, mine has started to work again. Started the car up on Boxing Day and low and behold the traffic was working again and continues to this day.

Very strange.

My live traffic has vanished for a week now. I recall my actual TomTom device with the same service would occasionally drop out, so one wonders if the problems might just be sporadic outages at TomTom's end with supplying the data.

What is frustrating is it doesn't seem to fail-over to using TMC traffic. Will see if it comes back any time soon.

****.

On Monday I didn't get anything going from Birmingham to Kingston-Upon-Thames, and got caught in a load of roadworks around Hampton Court that Google Maps was well aware of. It was then I noticed the traffic logo wasn't displaying on the nav.

And then coming back tonight, again no traffic logo and got stuck on the M4/M25, not that there's anything unusual about that!

Will see what it's like going back to London on Monday. A bit annoyed as I specifically spec'd Comand Online (and therefore the entire Premium Plus pack!) just for the traffic as I do so much driving in areas that my TomTom has always been able to navigate me around jams happily.

Interesting. I've just been reading the manual, and it appears not only am I not getting TomTom live traffic, I'm not getting TMC either, so that suggests a bug in Comand. Can it be restarted or reset? That might do the trick. Seems very odd for it not to receive both FM radio reports and cellular internet-based simultaneously, especially when Classic FM which broadcasts TMC is coming through perfectly fine.

Just reset the whole Comand system wiping every setting in the car just about, and it still isn't coming up. No live traffic or TMC. Guess it's time to book it into the dealer.

Not good enough on car that's only three weeks old. It's only software.

So mine went again last night.

Annoyingly it happened for a journey that ended up taking 3 hours whcih usually only takes 1 hour.

My theory now is that when the traffic everywhere is completely screwed Tom Tom turn off their updates to Mercedes!

First time it disappeared I had to get a software update from dealer. It then dropped again 24 hours later (in traffic) before re-appearing the next day.

It hadn't reappeared this morning so I'm going to give it the weekend before the dealer gets an angry call.

Doesn't the Comand system use the wireless internet connection (3G/4G/LTE) of your mobile phone to retrieve traffic information? Maybe that's the problem?

I haven't got my C yet, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Lost mine about 4-5 weeks ago, it's never come back. Booked in at dealer on 2nd March for the safety recall so going to get it looked at then. Also noticed this week that both my front door handle LED lights have stopped working.

Not for traffic, no. The car has it's own built in communications module with it's own sim card. It also gets TMC broadcasts over the radio.

I've never connected my mobile to the car, for internet, (iPhone running iOS 8.2 so it doesn't work) and the traffic worked fine before last week.

OK, mine has been out since Thursday and no sign of coming back.... will be calling the dealer this afternoon.

Last time a simple update of COMAND apparently worked. Think I will ask a few more questions this time though.

How is everyone else's?

I am in the UK and had a similar problem (see previous post) - the Communications module was replaced being faulty. The SIM in this module is what communicates to receive the traffic updates.

However, there are a number of 'hops' for this to work, including the SIM being registered on the MB database and with the traffic update provider. There may be more, but that is what I remember. After the repair it was not working, but 24 hours later it started working i.e. all the databases got into sync to let it work.

Good luck.

In UK where on screen does it say "traffic" manual says top right of screen but mine says "traffic" bottom left where the manual says it would show TMC.

Is there a reason this thread seems to be UK centric?

I'm in Canada and have never seen traffic on my Comand nav.

It'll say 'Traffic' if it's getting the updates over the Internet via the inbuilt communications module for subscription from TomTom.

It'll say 'TMC' if it's getting radio-based broadcasts.

In my case, it says neither because it's bust.
