This link will take you to the installation guide

I have successfully installed the camera database (there is a fee of £19.99 from this site) after updating the Garmin to latest software release for UK, seems to be working fine so far and to me its worth the price
Hope that helps

Hi Mercuk,
thanks a lot. it's very useful.
however, i had already a database and i managed to install them on the garmin. The issue is that i have only the warning message + sound but no icons. I tried to change the pixel from 22x22 to 44x44 but it doesn't work.
are you able to check which icons do you have?
many thanks

Gizzer, I have noted that certain cameras in urban zones are not displayed but a warning beep does sound.
When approaching a speed camera on the main motorways the warning beep will sound and a "Gatso" icon is displayed on the map at the location together with coordinates of the camera. This is displayed even if I change in the preferences to not display POI in the Garmin settings
I am sure that I have read (probably on the gpsworld site) that sometimes the speed camera may not be displayed on the Garmin if you are within the speed limit, I may be mistaken with this but will try this week to see if it does make a difference

Hi Mercuk,
i have the same thing. I've got only the warning beep and a pop-up which inform me what kind of alarm it is (speed camera or red lights camera).
I'm not sure it's linked to the fact you exceed the speed limit or not.
I noticed something weird, the normal POI (hotel, restaurant, gas station...) icons don't appear where i live (Switzerland). i've got only the Mercedes garage icons. However, when i cross the border in France, after a few i start to see all POI icons. And when i come back to Switzerland i only see some speed camera icons on the map and then they disappear after a few..
I don't know to what it is linked... maybe we should install all POI manually and not express with POIloader..
Please let me know what you get from your side..

on my garmin it gives a warning even though speed limit is not exceeded, and even if am not using the navigation. I can be in the media window, or radio, and the beep will come.
If you have used POI loader to create a poi file from a .csv file, then it will inform with normal info if speed below limit, and in red if above limit.

however, i don't like that it is not based on the car direction. If there is a speed cam on the opposite way, i recieve de warning beep. Even if sound is off..
do you have other files saved in the POI file of your garmin?
i was wondering if we should save the icons in others files..

Thanks megaoctane, useful info. Same here regarding the warnings. I have noted that some "average" speed cameras do not appear on the garmin map even though I know they are in the gpsworld database
Gizzer, POI - hotel, restaurant, gas station etc load up fine on the Garmin each time I have them on. I prefer them all off via settings normally

Regarding the speed camera, there's something wrong. Icons seems to appear randomly. I wonder where the normal POIs icons are stored into Garmin. I assume speed cams icons should be stored in the same place...
Are you able to switch off the warnings alarms?

No I think the warning alarms are permanent
This information may help you
(From http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafe...ras-garmin.php)
Displaying Speed Cameras on Garmin units
Why they did this we do not know. We can only assume that this has been done to make life a little more difficult for those who choose to use a non-Garmin database
Hope this helps

Displaying Speed Cameras on Garmin units
- Ensure that you have Proximity Alerts turned on in the units settings.
- If you have a newer unit with the Garmin / Cyclops camera database installed then you may want to turn off alerts for this database to avoid duplicate warnings.
- Note that camera alerts may not display/sound until you reach a certain speed. E.g. if you approach a camera site slowly then you may not get an alert but if you approach nearer the trigger speed then you will

I'll check again. I haven't used my car for a long distance yet. So I may not have tried all situations. So far, i get the warning alarm every time. Even if I approach them slowly.
For the location on the menu, I'll try again in extra and customs POI.
However I'm sure it might exist an better version of database.

Hi all, I've got another kind of problem. I can see messages approaching the speedcams, with just a "bip" sound. I'd like to visualize also the icon and to hear a clear message of what it's expecting me. I tried both with ready-to-use .gpi and with custom files I produced with Poiloader. The thing I don't know and I can't find anywhere is:
-Do I have to use .mp3 or .wav audio files?
-Which size are the icons I have to use?
Latest: did you also notice that upgrading from V2.3 to V2.4 the navi boot bacame very slow?!

That's the problem it seems we all have.
we only have warning sound plus pop-up message. No icons and no sound available.
Actually, i've got one icon that appears randomly. the size is 48X48

That is annoying: I couldn't find anywere in the web the answers to those questions. It would also be nice to know on which Garmin model our satnav is based on, although I think it's deeply customized...
Tonight I will try a new file composed from .csv like that "7.43054,44.42266,140913 Box speedcheck@50", with 22*22 icons and no audio file. Let's see what happens!
Nothing at all: the situation doesn't change and I can't find any info on the web. It would be very useful to know on which Garmin model is the Map Pilot based on, although I think it is something brand new and dedicated to MB. Any ideas??

yes but you don't see the radar on the screen.
From my side, I noticed that only fro long distance the icons starts to appear on the screen. For short distance they don't.

I still see most icons most of the time but i don't think its reliable enough to count on. I never see specs icons but they do alarm (most of the time) tried changing icons from 22x22 to 24x24 and changed csv to say camera instead of specs, no improvement. Just hoping upgrade may get it working reliably

I have the Gamin Map Pilot in my car and i have loaded custom POI's with different icons and it works fine.
First, download "POI Loader" from Garmins website and install it, then:
1. Create a directory on your computer (for example "GarminPOI")
2. Copy/create the .csv-file, that must be in Garminformat, to the directory created above (for example Speedcams.csv)
3. Copy/create a .bmp-file (36x36 or 48x48 and 8bit color depth), to the directory created above (for example Speedcams.bmp). Note that filename of the .csv- and the .bmp-file must be EXACTLY the same but with different file extensions.
4. Start POI Loader software. Click next, choose Computer (radio button), click next. Choose your newly created folder (GarminPOI), click next. Choose the same folder again (GarminPOI). Name your file (for example Speedcams_redlight_camera). Click next. POI Loader now merges the two files in directory GarminPOI and creates a third file named Speedcams_redlight_camera.gpi
5. Insert your Garmin Map Pilot SD card
6. Copy the file Speedcams_redlight_camera.gpi (from GarminPOI on your computer) to the Garmin/POI directory on the SD card. The icon is embedded in the .gpi-file. You don't need to copy the .csv- and/or the .bmp-files.
7. Done
The above works for me.
Note that the Gamin SD card can have more than one .gpi-file in Garmin/POI-folder. Remember if it is a speed camera file (and want it to alert) the .gpi-file must have the word redlight or camera in it. Also, on Garmins website it states that the icons must be 24x24 in size, I haven't tried that size but 36x36 and 48x48 works.
Hope this helps.

That's very interesting Zyxclaes and thanks for posting, I will try that this weekend.
On another point have you worked out anyway to silence the alerts? It may seem a strange question but when driving on the same stretch of road regularly the constant sound alert becomes quite annoying. Muting the driving directions voice announcements does not have any effect on the alerts and it would be good to have choice.
I have tried searching for answers on pocketgpsworld but it's difficult as the forums have so much information to get through.

I have loaded consolidated speed cameras by type from Pocketgps. So basically 1 csv for location and 1 file for the BMP for ...
Gatsos, Mobiles, redlights, Specs,
I tried it and it did pick up mobiles and gatso (as it did before) - It shows a box with 'Speed Alert X mph'
I'll see if the Specs cameras now work when I drive home later today.
Cheers

Note that 36x36 doesn't look right, 24x24 looks best.

When you have found the icon of your choise right-click and choose "Save picture as..." In Internet Explorer (I'm using my iPad to type this, can't exactly remember the menu choise). Save it as an .bmp-file.
The format of the icon is probably NOT 36x36 or 48x48 and 8bit. Open MS Paint (if you are on a windows computer) and change the size. Save it as an .bmp-file with 256-colors (8bit). Done.
Try to find a size of an icon that is close to the target size. Looks much better.
