Steering wheel noise
After more than 3 months of receiving my car (SA-built), I noticed steering wheel noise which did not exist and was irritating me, so I brought it in to my dealer's service center and they said they will be ordering part(s) from Germany, obviously for a replacement. Did anyone have that happen to their car, W205 or not?

Not entirely sure, I initally asked the service guy whether my car is part of the steering recall and told me that they have to undergo further inspection, in which they took the car for a day and concluded that they will have to replace part(s). I think it is part of the recall as even SA-built cars were affected. The noise is very apparent and does not sound right. No loss of control occurre yet and I was told it is safe to drive the car until the parts arrive.

Can you explain the noise? I'm interested in that it requires parts replacement.

Not sure it may be the same, but I experienced a sound when I testdrove the first C classes to arrive to Norway.
At first the steering was normal, but when initiating park assistance and the car took over the steering wheel you could hear this grinding sound, as if the there are parts grinding against each other every time you turned the wheel after canceling the auto park assistance.
This hasn't been an issue on my car, and it was called in for the steering check and it didn't have that issue.

alright so i think i experience similar noises as you described.
Every Morning if my car is a cold start, the first cycle of wheel turn would generate the "grinding" noise you mentioned, it kinda feels like my wheels are too sensitive to the uneven pavement. It only grinds on the first cycle of turning, be it left turn or right turn, but right after that there would be no noise just like nothing happened.
I have scheduled a service appointment next monday for my passenger side backdoor pull handle LED not working, so I'm talking to the service guys about that.

Certainly not. While the SA plant has an enviable record for quality that you can Google. They are not immune to issues. They usually jump on them very quickly. The fact that "parts are required from Germany" makes it likely that this is a component issue & not an assembly one.
